2006 Super Crew long bed

I must have one of the first F-150 King Ranch Super Crew long bed (6.5') trucks around as I ordered it in November on the first day that my dealer could submit an order. The truck came in on Dec 27 and I took delivery on Dec 29. I had long wanted a super crew, but didn't buy one because I felt that the 5.5' bed was just too short for my purposes. My King Ranch is loaded with everything except that it is a 4X2 and I deleted the video option which saved me a lot of money and I simply do not need a 4X4. My truck came with the optional 20" wheels and the Pirelli Scorpion Tires. After a week and almost 1000 miles I must report that I am very happy with this vehicle. Initially I was concerned that it would look too long, but it really doesn't and the turning radius is about the same as my old super cab. In my opinion, it is a much improved vehicle over both of the two 2004 models that I owned. For one thing, I have no drive line vibration problems whatsoever with this new one. Both of my 2004 models had irritating drive shaft vibrations between 40 and 50 mph. The 2006 is smooth as silk all the way up to 85 mph. The 5.4L engine in the '06 idles much smoother than both of my '04 models. The idle on the '06 is silky smooth as it should be. I also ordered the 2006 with the 3.73 axle ration as opposed to the 3.55 that I had in my 2004 models. The 3.73 makes this vehicle noticably livlier than the 3.55 and after a 700 mile trip, I am getting about 17 mpg on the highway with speeds up to 75 mph. My fuel economy is only marginally worse than what I experienced with my 2004 model with a 3.55 ratio.

The only disappointment is with the ride. Those big wheels and tires are punishing on all but the smoothest roads. On a smooth highway, the ride is a dream, but on rough roads and broken pavement, a lot of the jolt and impact is transmitted to the cab. My 2004 with 17' wheels and Michelins was much better riding on rough pavement. I would suggest that if rough pavement ride ride is important to you, DO NOT ORDER THE 20" WHEELS. I had lots of problems with my 2004 trucks, and I am hoping that it was because of first year production. Now that Ford has a couple of years under their belt in building this truck, hopefully a lot of the quality problems have been worked out. I notice that the Ford Vehicles web site STILL does not list the 6.5' bed available with the super crew, but it IS available and you may begin seeing them on dealer lots. This confiruration is only 6" longer than a super cab with the 6.5' box and in my opionin a much more useful vehicle if you need to haul people.

Post some pics please. I'm anxious to see the longer box also. That is the only complaint I have about my current KR. The 5.5' bed is not too large by any means.

I took four pictures, but can't seem to figure out how to post them. How about some help in posting photos.

Here's a down and dirty add-on to delta's post...

Here's where you go to create your gallery. It's free. No strings attached other than you can't post pics of nakedity. (yes, that's a word)

https://www.f150online.com/galleries/new.cfm

From there, click on CREATE MY GALLERY and move through the steps.

Once you have created it, you'll be able to upload pics.

Once you have uploaded pictures and you're viewing them in a gallery (while you're not logged into your gallery), click on any one of your pictures...(specifically, the one you want to post)....you'll notice a little link down in the bottom right corner within the description box that says 'Forum Codes'.

Click on Forum Codes.

A box will apear that has a bunch of mumbojumbo in it. One is a thumbnail sized photo, the other is a full size.

Highlight the text for the picture that you want to post (thumb or full). Hold CTRL-C (this copies the text that you just highlighted).

Now, go into the forums and, within a thread (or spin a new thread if needed), push CTRL-P (this pastes the text that you copied in the last step).

Enter in any other text that you want to... including descriptions, thoughts, dirty jokes, etc... and hit submit!

It's that simple.... there's a limit of four pics per post (and this includes smiley faces too).

So, here's an example:

Note, I removed the / at the end of the link [img] so you'd see how it works. Insert the / and it'll show a picture; not a long weblink.

For example... here it is with the /

Si Senor?

I really look forward to seeing your truck.

I like it, except for one thing, it's not a 4x4. Just kidding casonet. Honestly I think the look with the longer bed makes no difference to me. I like both the 5.5 and 6.5 ft beds looks wise, but that extra foot could sure come in handy on some trips to the lumber yard or the race tracks. I would have to get a 4x4 but to each their own. As you said casonet, you have no need for it so why spend the extra money for it. Anyway, congrats on the new truck. It looks nice.

Very nice. I'd have to move some things around in the garage - I barely fit as is and have already closed the garage door on the edge of the front bumper once (just a tiny nick). But it would be worth the effort.
