Calling Rusty Leroy !

Hi

Olive branch here.

I think I may still 'screw up' explaining my thoughts on this one but here goes...!

I certainly didn't want anyone to take anything personally.....you went back to an earlier thread where my campaign against certain words started off as good humored banter.

My observation about my IMAGE of anyone using THAT word was just that...an image.

The English language is one of the richest in the world..in fact it probably has more words than any other language.

European satirical shows often portray American useage of English as so limited....
We often hear phrases such as "Oh my God...we had a blast... it was so cool and awesome."

In fact only last night I was watching the Amazing race over here and it seemed every other word was Awesome !!
'm not decrying the word but hope somewhat vainly it will be used in moderation for things that really ARE awesome.

In my useage AWESOME would, as I think I pointed out before, relate to things like the Grand Canyon....To me that is awesome !

To use the word referring to mundane things does not to me seem appropriate.
I understand what you say about a generation thing...the modern idium etc, but I still think we ought to make efforts to widen our use of words or in the end we will all be reduced to an incoherent babbling mass of a few dozen words.

Now don't take offence at this..it isn't meant...but I think to keep using those same words is basically lazy...it saves us THINKING and using the rich language we were gifted with.
OK I accept that it will be used perhaps where other words would be better.....all I'm asking is that we use our intellect to keep the language alive and evolving.

A lot of people decry the Americanistation of English...I'm not one.
Do you know a lot of American English is MORE true to it's roots than our use in England.
Color is really better than our colour (From French Coleur).
Sidewalk is more descriptive than pavement, which is our word for it.
I could quote hundreds more examples.
Many words you use were brought across by the Pilgrims while OUR useage has changed. Thanks to the media though that viewpoint is not often aired.

So...forgive me if I inferred something that was not intended in any way personally....
See...we can all 'screw up', even if we think we know better.

this is way off the KR topic, but i agree that the english language is a phenomenal language. while i agree that american english has it's advantages, there are some british english words that are better as well (i.e. "fortnight").

anyway...i am sitting here at work tonight and someone said "awesome"...it made me think of this banter...i was even going to pull a "lenny" on the person that said it...then, i logged in and found this...

as you can see from some of my posts in the mike150 thread, i get carried away at times...i certainly don't mean anything sinister by it. i had a friend of mine once tell me that i just like to "champion the cause" regardless of what it is...that's probably true...it's my overzealous way...

so, i'm sorry to make such a stink about something so trivial...especially being so new to the forum and all...

btw...my wife thinks i'm insane for being in the forum...she can't understand why a bunch of grown men and women would want to brag about their trucks...i keep telling her that it's a great way to learn more about the truck...to share ideas...and to get opinions from kindred spirits. i don't want to alienate myself from the group over something that doesn't even pertain to the forum's topic.

Gee, your wife and mine should start a support group for KR owners, mine doesn't understand the forum thing either... But I like this bunch of members and while we're all not going to agree on some topics (take MikeF150's leaving for example), we all seem to get along somehow.

Glad to see a fellow Oklahoman on the board, I've been relocated to California for the last six years but we've decided to move back home (OKC) after the first of the year. We've enjoyed our time in sunny SOCAL but looking forward to home and family.

Enjoy your KR and keep on posting!

a support group would be nice for her. she about flipped when she heard me buy the Xcal2.

i agree that the KR board is friendly...and i like it a lot. i was a bit of a snapper head about the "awesome" thing, but i don't think i've made enemies over it.

i'm sorry to tell you this...but i'm a texan displaced in oklahoma. and while i despise the longhorns (i'm an aggie fan), i can't root for the sooners when they're playing any texas team...and living in norman, i don't expect to be elected mayor anytime soon. and my KR is my connection to the homeland. however, i really do love norman. the people here are fantastic.

Hey, I won't hold that against you, my wife is originally from Texas. Just stay out of politics there in Norman! Regardless of all the mostly friendly jibing, Texas and Oklahoma have a lot of things in common, college football being one of the biggest!

Maybe Texas can do to USC what Oklahoma couldn't...

There is a comedian named Bill Engvall that talks about how he thinks we use the word awesome incorrectly as well. Some of his examples of awesome were:

Winning the lottery TWICE

Being invited to the Playboy mansion....on trampoline night

Getting a call from the IRS saying you have been auditied and they owe you $50,000

Getting invited to Shainia Twains hotel room with a note from your wife that says have a good time.

The IRS owes you? Hey, I'm in "awe" of that fact! Any money back from the government is money going to a better cause (your pocket!)

Hey, coming from Alaska, I'd be happy to be carried back under a Texan's arm! I'd just have to hold my nose...
