First Impressions
First Impressions
Well, after 6 weeks and a day, my dark copper 4x4 F150 King Ranch arrived late last week. Haven't had a chance to post pictures as yet - we live on a gravel road and unfortunately it has been dry and dusty of late.
Anyway, I am to say the least enthused about this truck. I've been driving a 10 year old vehicle so anything new is going to seem nice, but I thought I'd share my first impressions of the truck, plus I figured everyone here would likely know how I'm feeling right now!!
Picked up the truck on Thursday last week - was extremely busy with a new company myself and partners are setting up, so I had to literally drive it home from the dealer and park it - bummer!
After having had some time to just sit in it, drive it:
- I think my absolute favourite thing is just opening the door - that first waft of leather makes the extra dough for this vehicle worth it - everyone who has a look in the truck comments about it, from "that is the nicest interior I've every seen in a vehicle", to "I love the leather" to "holy sh$t!". The seats blow everyone that looks at it away, never mind the space, dash, and colour scheme.
- I can't believe how quiet the interior is - at idle I can barely make out that the engine is on, and on throttle it is still unobtrusive.
- The ride is more solid than I would have expected (although it, like any truck, gets jittery on washboard) and on the highway it is just plain a pleasure to drive.
- For me, the power is more than adequate - it certainly isn't a rocket off the line by any stretch, but putting the peddle down once or twice passing made the truck jump plenty for me. I guess I'm not a big time power junkie and for my purposes, the power, and acceleration is adequate at worst.
- I've had at least 25 - 30 comments so far about the dark copper colour - totally unique and seeing it in person I begin to realize how much it stands out.
- Here again, I'm not an overly discerning person when it comes to stereo equipment, but the audiophile system is pretty impressive for a stock system. Good crisp high end with seat vibrating bass - I love it!
- I'm a bit let down with the overhead rail system - there is not as much space in there as I had expected, and while I got the interstate package included within CDN$1,000 worth of dealer options for free, it was way overpriced for what you get.
- Included with the $1,000 dealer freebies, I selected a snapless soft tonneau (the choices were limited and it was pretty well the only thing worth choosing besides the low profile bug sheild and the interstate rail package). I have already removed the tonneau from the truck - honestly I think Ford should be embarassed for offering it - bowed support beams, no "locking" feature whatsoever, and just generally a very average appearance with the bowed support beams. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a Truxedo Plus combined tonneau / work box. Truxedo's soft tonneau, for roughly the same price, is a way better product. Anyone want to buy a stock Ford tonneau cheap???
- Overall, the fit and finish is impressive - this *feels* like an extremely well built vehicle - doors close with barely a push, and the general road manners lend a feeling of confidence in cornering for a full size truck - very little body roll, and glass smooth in my opinion at highway speed.
- Did I mention the seats???!!!
Anyway, hope all you other King Ranch owners, and all F150 owners for that matter, are enjoying you trucks as much as I am! Heading out on a 4,000 km (2,500 mile) trip later this week so I'll have lot's more time to enjoy every facet of the new F150!!
Dave.

Nice post - welcome to KR ownership!
I had a friend in mine recently and they said the seats were better than their leather furniture at home. Took it for an oil change and the entire crew came over for a peak inside. The interior is indeed awesome!
