AZ Beige Tonneau Cover (Soft)

Does anyone know of a company that makes a soft tonneau for the 2001 KR that is available iin the AZ Beige (or anything that is so close as to not show the difference) ?

The more I look the less I find. Some manufacturer's have a Buckskin or an Off White and a Tan but what color are they?

I know I could get a hard one and have it painted but I'd rather have the soft cover in the matching AZ Beige color.

I know of no other companies that make one honestly... that's not to say they don't exist though.

I'd call those companies that have the 'odd' colored ones and ask them to send you a swatch of the vinyl. That way you'll know what you're getting if you decide to go that route.

RP - I did just that (ask for a swatch) with one company. Called them up told them I wanted a small swatch of two different colors to match up to the AZ Beige. "Oh I don't have those. We special order the colored vinyls once you have ordered the cover." So I ask, "You want me to special order a colored tonneau and if it doesn't match I'm stuck with it?" "Well yeah I guess so." I kindly replied "You're *******ing crazy if you think I'm going to do that" and hung up. I bought a black one after that. Then of course I found the factory one and bought it too. Anyway, it was frustrating to say the least. I do have a black tonneau if anyone is interested. It is a Tekstyle brand.

So I guess the bottom line is if you find the right company and can talk them into giving you a sample swatch, you may be able to match up an aftermarket tonneau to the AZ Beige. Good luck in your search.

Update - AZ Beige Tonneau (or close to it)

I have received a sample chart from Extang and their Buckskin is more orange than tan (not a good color). I currently have samples coming from Sport Masters who make a new cover called the Tonneau Master - and they have a Buckskin that looks a bit closer to the AZ Beige.

If I am unable to find a close match I may ask them if I supply the vinyl will they still manufacturer the cover for me (since most of the companies state that any special ordered cover is NCNR).

Will post as soon as the next samples are received.

More Information on AQ tonneau cover

This is the intent of my asking those who read this forum to vote on if they would want a special KR Arizona Beige tonneau cover. We get enough YES votes and maybe, just maybe something positive can happen. I've been instrumental in getting this type of activity done in the past and I would not mind spearheading this "adventure".

(Added @ 2:50pm PDST) - I spoke to a Ford Motor Company Customer Service Manager and she found that LEER was the manufacturer of the Arizona Beige tonneau covers. I called LEER and have sent a letter to the VP in charge explaining that there are many F150 KR owners that would love to be able to purchase a soft roll up cover made with the Arizona Beige vinyl.

Let's see when I get a reply and what LEER has to say.

LEER did **NOT** make the KR Tonneau. A company named BESTOP manufactured them. They are based out of Denver as I've talked with them about getting the mounting brackets that I didn't have when I bought my tonneau. I did come up with the brackets and thus, I think my source is more reliable than the Customer Service folks.

Further, he mentioned that the facilities that they utilized to make those tonneaus were gone. The sewing machines and such were sold off and they no longer operate that particular facility. Further, he had NONE in stock that might have been laying around.

He requested that I not release or publish his information but, I can tell you that he was THE PROJECT MANAGER for the King Ranch / Harley-Davidson snapless tonneau project.

cjw3cma - Please post details when you get them. I've been holding many conversations with myself regarding bedcovers (soft cover vs hard cover, colored vs black, etc) and am leaning toward a soft cover with a "leather" look to complement my KR's seats. Something with the KR logo would even be better.

Thanks for your efforts.

Another thing to keep in mind concerning the King Ranch logo is that if you wish to use it, copyright/trademark laws would be in effect and thus, you'd have to get it approved by King Ranch as it is a corporation that ACTIVELY pursues folks who utilize their copywritten logos on a legal scale.

The International King Ranch Ford Truck Owners Club had to obtain permission to utilize the word 'FORD' as well as 'KING RANCH' in the title. In that process, I spoke with numerous attorneys all interested in what we were all about and ensuring that we weren't going to be profiting from the name. If we were to profit from the name, we would be legally obligated to pay royalties to the respective companies. This is why the KROC donated the excess funds from the initial KROC Shirt/Sticker sale to the Salvation Army.

RP...

Regarding the 'International King Ranch Ford Truck Owners Club':

1. How does a KR owner become a member?

2. Could the KROC help work the Tonneau Cover idea? The club obviously has a track record with both Ford and the King Ranch.

3. Is there a secret handshake?

Dave,

Thanks for your interest.

I have developed a very minimal relationship with someone in the legal department at Ford as she was the one that issued us a letter stating that we could utilize the name 'Ford' in our club name. Further, I have a pretty solid relationship with the club contact at King Ranch as she is also the one that managed to get permission granted for us and is also the one that granted the King Ranch Saddle Shop discount that we had going back in March.

As for Ford and King Ranch being directly involved on the manufacturing, they're not. Simply put, Ford and KR would simply grant copyright permissions to the manufacturer and then they would be able to screen print the KR/F150 logo on the goods. And, of course, when you print those logos on items that are going to be made by a third party, profits will be justified and thus, the manufacturer would be liable to Ford/KR for royalties. We were able to bypass this snafu because we made no profit on the shirts/stickers (and Joe isn't going to profit from it either on the current sitcker order). I just don't think either resource would be much to our advantage.

As far as joining the International King Ranch Ford Truck Owners Club (KROC for short), simply shoot me an email at rockpick@insightbb.com stating your name, location (including address), truck color, truck year, email address, and 4X2/X4. I'll add you to the database at that point. (speaking of database, I really need to update it).

Thanks for your interest.

Hey Brad.....

Just going through the posts in an idle moment came across a comment you made in that longer post about KR membership.

We were able to bypass this snafu

Just wondered if you knew the derivation and meaning of that word.

Also did you come across "Fubar" ??

I would guess that both terms, along with FIGMO (******* it, got my orders), have US Military origins. I believe that FUBAR stands for *******ed Up Beyond All Recognition.
