As I said the show is still seen regularly here in the UK (And other parts of the world), but never was quite so popular in the states, which was strange because it related to a particular US institution.
The main character often yelled the quoted line at other people in the cast. He wanted them to do things but was reluctant to do them himself.
He was in musicals, was a great friend of Sinatra, Milton Berle, and other legends of TV and the silver screen.
He had 4 lovely daughters who I have been fortunate to meet at a Star ceremony on the walk of fame.
It was posthumous as he died in 1986.
More clues later until someone gets the beer.....if anyone's interested !

How about Sgt. Bilko on the Phil Silvers Show.
Now all you have to do is get over to the UK to claim your free beer !
Or after September 1st just pop down to South Texas....and you can visit the King Ranch on the way !!!
Seriously .... well done .... and we'll sort something out about a beer or three.

Actually I don't mind being likened to Phil.
He was a very clever man and one of the all time great comedians.
I have some early tapes of him with Milton Berle and they really did set the groundwork for a lot of modern comedy.
And of course as Mess Sgt. Ernie Bilko at Fort Baxter, Kansas, he was just the best.

I collect Phil Silvers memorabilia and thanks to his eldest daughter I have a gold watch given to him by Sinatra when they were appearing together at Las Vegas.
I also have his original screen contracts and many personal items courtesy of the family when we were invited to Hollywood for the Star Ceremony.
While there we got to meet with a lot of very famous film stars (Jon Voight, Al Pacino etc.,) but possibly best for me, the only living cast member of the Phil Silvers show, who played Ernie's sidekick, Henshaw. (Played by Allan Melvin)
I expect you're all too young to remember this stuff but there might be an odd one or two out there who understand what I'm drivelling on about !!
Allan Melvin as he was 2 years ago at the Star Ceremony., for those of you that may have seen the show.

And there I think we better leave it as we are just a tad off topic.
In fact the only tenuous link to the forum recently is my wif'e KR handbag !!
But you can blame our dear moderator for that one !!!
