King Ranch Tonneau Cover Installed

The cover arrived yesterday (20JUL04) and I got the frame mounted last night before the sun disappeared. Installed the cross-bars and the cover this afternoon - And I LIKE IT !!!

After seeing the picture that Dakotagirl22 posted when she installed her's, I went into high gear and my search paid off.

A few more pictures of the cover are in my gallery.

My original post on where I got it.

Using this forum and others related to the F150, I searched out the email addresses of as many "leads" as I could find that deal or have dealt with Ford F150 King Ranch accessories and sent them all the same formatted message requesting information on the whereabouts of the logo cover. A few replied with the standard NO AVAILABILITY. But yesterday afternoon I received the email message quoted in my earlier post from Dan Newman at cooperautogroup.com and FORD Parts HQ stating that he had one.

Luck of the draw; feels like being dealt pocket aces in the final hand of Texas Hold'm.

If not for the help found on this forum that lead me to search other areas this find would not have happened.

Sure wish I could find one. It looks great on the truck. I hope it will not get weather beaten.

Great Look

Thanks, Ss. To keep it from getting weather beaten I am using Lexol Vinyl Protectant (yes - this Lexol product I will use - but not any of their leather care products). From all reviews I been able to find it is the choice of the pros for vinyl cleaning and UV protection.

Keep an eye out on eBAY - ya never know what might appear for sale.

As a pre-warning on Vinylex.

I've been using this product for years now and it's a SUPER product but, the water soluability is high. In short, if you've applied vinylex to the cover and it rains the next day, you're going to have streaking down your paint on your truck. Also, Vinylex likes dust if it's not applied correctly...

Here's a very simple trick that I learned over the past few years of utilizing that little blue bottle...

Spray it on a towel and towel it on to the tonneau. I'd avoid misting it out of the bottle as it tends to go EVERYWHERE on the paint. Allow it to sit for about an hour and then come back with a microfiber towel and 'buff' the entire treated area. About 24 hours later, go back over the treated area again with the same microfiber towel to remove the dust and such that inevitably ends up on the cover.

Once you've buffed it for the second time, you should have little to no problem with the dust (or at least I didn't). There's something about that first 24 hours that seems to do the trick.

BTW, I use the Vinylex on my vinyl running boards as well. Have you tried the Vinylex wipes? They're AWESOME!

Question on the Vinylex on the running boards... does it cut down on the road grime staining? I have to frequently use paint thinner to get black stains out of the boards. Also, does it make the running boards slick so you can't use them with tennis shoes?

Vinylex, as a rule of thumb, is slippery. No doubt about that. Fortunately, I've trained most passengers (including the wifey) to avoid the running boards when getting into the truck to avoid scuffing. I know... I know... it's a bit extreme but, she doesn't gripe about it anymore and thus, it's okay.

I'm not sure I've had the black staining problem that you're describing dufunnel. I mean, my boards get some grime on them but, as far as a 'black' grunge, I'm not sure if I can answer your question.

Have you tried the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for your boards to clean them? It kicks serious butt!

Another sidenote: the Vinylex wipes don't seem as slippery.

Passengers? Only if they're young and mighty pretty (oops - here comes my wife).

But for everyone else I say, "that's what the bed in back is for. Hold on tight!".
