Subwoofer in Rear Console of KR
Subwoofer in Rear Console of KR
I saw that JL Audio makes a subwoofer / enclosure ( Stealthbox ) that is made to fit within the rear console of the King Ranch. Has anyone experienced this system addition ? If so, what mono-amp did you choose to power this ? And does the factory audio hardware have a pre-amp output ?
Appreciate any and all replies.

I have the rear console stealthbox in my truck, although I am running a Polk Momo 12" in it instead of the JL audio sub. I am very happy with it. If you are going to run the JL audio sub, I would recommend using the amp they recommend, which is listed on their website. These days they can be had pretty cheaply on Ebay. I am running an MTX Thunder 81000d with mine though, since that is what I had from my prior system. I have been looking at the JL 12W7 and 1000.1 amp lately, although they are still quite expensive, and I'm not sure if it would work very well in this small an enclosure. By the way, these boxes are very expensive, which is why I bought mine without the speaker, and I bought it used.
As for the pre-out, your only option with the stock radio is to splice in a line level converter (speaker level to RCA converter) and then run RCAs to your amp, unless you can find an amp that has speaker level inputs, then you can splice the rear speaker lines directly into the amp. The line level converter doesn't do justice to sound quality, as it is not a very good quality to convert to RCAs from speaker level.
I have tried out pretty much all of these options, and ended up going with an aftermarket in dash deck ultimately. At one time I had the Mach MP3 deck in my truck, which required the line level converter.
I can probably answer any other questions you have. Drop me an email if you would like, as I don't often frequent the site.

Jay,
Here is the dealer search page for the Stealthbox - you may be able to find someone in your area that can give you the info.
