Rear Seat Pocket Problems

Just purchsed my 2001 King Ranch (eBAY deal - flew to Houston and drove it back). The back of the passenger seat has come apart - the right side of the cargo flap has come away from the rest of the seat (there are two long plastic "tabs" that look like they fit together).

Does anyone have experience with this type of do-it-yourself repair of the cargo pocket on the rear of the leather seat?

Before I begin the restoration process of the leather (it needs it bad), I would like to have the seat repaired (doing it myself if possible).

Thanks in advance.

PS - I love this truck !!!!

Hey CWJ!

Welcome to f150online.com! We're glad to have you aboard!

Your problem is a very common one with those of us that own 2001s and, unfortunately, there's not a simple fix.

Long story short, just get in there and attempt to reconnect the two plastic tabs. If you'll notice, they fit together like you're clasping your fingers with one thumb up and the other thumb down (for lack of a better way to describe it).

I have, however, found it to be easier to put back together by starting at the bottom but, this is just a personal opinion.

It can definately be done without paying someone to do it though. From my experience, it's caused by the rear seat pushing into the back of the front seat (where the saddle bag is located) because the seat is all the way back. Further, you can expect it to happen again.

GOOD LUCK!!

RP

Same thing happened to me. Drivers seat back came apart at the plastic joint. I just took some time, reinstalled the connector and put the seat back in operational mode.

Has been working great.

Just take your time!!!

Thanks for the Info.

Last night while I began cleaning the leather seats in front (using the hot clean towel method for cleaning and then conditioner after it has dried), my wife was trying to get the seat back rails in place and I told her the way she was going about it would not work. Then I read your replies and had to apologize to her for telling her that's not the way it is done. So today she is trying her best to get it put back the way you have described. I need to bring home some flowers to get out of the dog house.
Hope she has the patience and the good fortune to get it done.

Thanks again for your help. I'm sure to have more requests for assistance as I get more into the truck.

Regards.

I had the same problems with mine. I finally got tired of putting it back together every couple of weeks and took it to the dealer. They sent it to an auto upholstery shop. They removed the plastic snap rails and put in heavy duty stitching. Worked like a charm!

Great. Do you remember what the fee was for this? Want to prepare myself for the "shock".

Thanks.
