Hard bed covers

Can anyone (Rockpick) give me a line on where to get the hard/hinged/body colored bed covers I've seen on F150's? I would assume the dealer but didn't know if any after market covers were available. Let me know...Thanks, Bert

You can get them at any truck accesory shop really. Alot of members seem to like the ARE lids better than others.

Like KRC mentioned, ARE brand seems to be the general favorite however; you'll see several other brands.

I've been thinking about adding one of these too. Can anybody give a rough estimate on what they're selling for?

Thanks,

I got a quote not too terribly long ago and, as I recall, it was up around $1k for one with all the bells and whistles (auto-lock, light, liner, etc).

Paid $900 about two years ago. Painted the color of truck with stupid battery light.

Cover is great, light is junk.

I'm seven months into my 2003 KR and still haven't put a tonneau on. I want the AREII. What do y'all think about going with the under colo[u]r, Arizona Beige, rather than my main..black?

Lenticular went with an AZ Beige cap on his Chestnut KR....

And while his 2nd Ford truck wasn't a KR, he got just about as close as he could possibly get without Castano...

And just for giggles.... here's Lenny's latest truck...

Actually...to be picky....that 3rd picture isn't our truck.

It nearly was, but it was one of the first in South Texas, and no one had a hard tonneau in the area for the new 04's.
(Also it had a moon roof and not the rail system which I wanted)

That's when we went to Corpus Christi and got the 04 in Toreador red/ Arizona that they had found in Dallas. (They also had one of the few 04 tonneaus at the time).

However we (well me ) had decided I really did like the all over Arizona beige so as soon as our usual dealer had one in stock we bought it.....it happened to be a 4x4 as well.

So here's the correct pic showing the truck doing what trucks are supposed to do !!

Liking this color all over, is going to make the choice of going back to a KR difficult.

(Also I must tidy up my gallery !)

Post ARE vs. other?

What are the advantages of ARE vs. brands? When doing my comparisons I wanted a solid hinge and a cover that could be taken off occasionally for moving big items. Has anyone seen a big gas mileage improvement since adding a cover? Thanks!

Look at the 2004 F150 threads for views on the differing makes.
I have been very pleased with the ARE.
It fits very well and is totally waterproof.
However it is not a 5 minute job to take off and refit.
They may come off easily but putting them back on needs patience to align them properly.
At low speeds for short distances you could drive with it hinged up, but if you often need to move large items, a roll back cover may be a better answer.
From what I have read fuel economy differences are negligable.

We have been very happy with the Snugtop lid. The dealership had had them installed on a couple of their Harley Davidsons, and they looked very good on them. The paint match was great.
