Caution in Calgary (Long)!!
Caution in Calgary (Long)!!
This is the "short" version!
As some of you know I WAS close to the purchase of a burgandy 2002 KR F150 4X4.
I looked at it on the weekend and it was is fairly good condition.
The present owner said that it was his uncle's truck and that he always liked it so he bought it off of him when he got a new one.
I was suspicious for a few reasons:
1. He did not know the reasons for small degrees of damage to the truck
2. He could not produce the records for the truck and was evasive.
3. The engine was detailed beyond even my expectations
I prematurely pulled a lien/title search and there was a lien and the truck was registered to another person.
When I confronted the "owner" and told him his story doesn't jive he said that he had lied because he had credit trouble and the truck was repo'ed and that he was sorting everything out and was too embarrassed to tell me. I thought that was the truth and kept proceeding!
He told me the registered owner had already signed the papers over to me - I realized after I got off the phone that this should be done in person WITH ID.
I thought " what if the person was on vacation and this guy falsifies the signiture and sells a vehicle he doesn't even own". Good luck getting my money back!
When I woke up this morning I still had a bad gut feeling and decided to make one more phone call.
I finally tracked down the registered owner and called him this morning.
A totally different story (version 3).
He told me he barely knew the seller and that he was getting seperated and had sold the truck via another contact.
He purchased it as a lease back from the dealer - not purchased new.
He seemed honest.
At least 3 owners in two years!
I blew off the deal and left a terse voice mail for the seller.
If you are in the market in Calgary - please do your due diligence!
I just want to save someone some possible grief.
I still don't know the sellers ultimate intentions but it smelled like a con.
I hope this was OK to post.
I guess I won't have a truck similiar to Rock Pick's unless another similiar truck comes available.
