King Seatbelt Mods

New owner of a King, certainly the nicest in a long series of pickups we've owned. This is a great forum, glad to have found on specific to the king. One aspect of my new luxo-barge is not pleasing--seatbelt location on the seat. Last truck was a ranger 4x4 with the seatbelt reel mechanism in the Supercab door as opposed to the seat. Much more user friendly. Has anyone tried relocation and or any other mods to move the belt? As this is my first F-150 I don't have a lot of history with the variants that are possible. Suggestions? Would like to relocate the belt mechanism if possible. thanks, Mark

I would be interested in this as well. I was cleaning the leather the other day and noticed a slight discoloration where the seatbelts rest on the seats. Looks like it might be from less UV hitting that portion of the interior. Moving the belts would stop that.

I'd be VERY hesitant to relocate the belts as they are engineered into the safety requirements set forth by the US Gov.

Plus, if you ever want to sell that vehicle, you could potentially be liable if there ever was an accident and the seat belts that you changed were shown faulty.

I'm just thinking out loud here on the reasons why you shouldn't do it. I totally understand your purpose but, in my opinion, I don't think the pros will outweigh the potential cons...

Like I said though... just my opinion.

Yeah, if anything happened you could/would be held liable because that is a structural safety modification. Another thing is insurance would balk if you or your family were injured and they found/pointed to the seatbelt being the problem.

That said, I think that there is structural bracing around where the seabelts are attached. In order to move them you would have to add bracing to it. I'm sure with all the crazy things people do to cars these days that there is some place out there that could/would do the work. That would be the only way I think you could get away with it. A licensed body shop is insured for such things and would bear responsability then if they would do it.

its right up there with airbags.

There are airbag deactivation switches available for drivers side (in case medical condition warrants airbag off). But try to find a mechanic to install it.

You expose yourself to enough potential lawsuits through the day... don't add this one too.

Thanks but...

Appreciate all the input but safety considerations weren't really the need. Looking more for someone who might know if the F150 had a variant with the seatbelts (factory mounting of course) are on the supercab back door (like the ranger) and if that existed, had they changed over. Thanks for the replies anyway.

I'm not 100% how your belts are mounted. I have a 2001 and the belts are mounted into the central support. I know in 2002 they moved it where it is actually on the seat.

I think what is going on here is that the original poster, has a F-150 KingRanch SUPERCAB (where the seat belts are in the actual seat, cause the two rear suicide doors open((no mid pillar))). So, he has it different than those of us who have a King Ranch SuperCrew.
