Another new owner
I guess I should introduce myself.
I just brought home a new (to me) 2002 F-150 4x2 SCrew KR. Charcoal blue / Arizona beige exterior, rear captain's seats, moon roof. I found it on eBay, went down to Texas to pick it up, and just drove the 1000 miles to Illinois. D*mn that leather is nice, it makes all the leather interiors I've ever felt before feel like cheap vinyl.
Some stupid newbie questions... Feel free to tell me which FAQ's to read.
How can I tell what options this truck really has? The obvious ones I've found already, but I don't know how to tell which rear end it has, for instance.
How do I get the factory shop manuals?
The bed is all scratched up, but none of the scratches are down to bare metal, just primer. Can I just drop a bed liner in and be done with it?
How much mileage improvement do you really get from a tonneau cover? I got 15-18 mpg coming home, 5.4l engine.

Welcome to the Club. I am also new here.
To find out what options I had, I did a search on Yahoo and Google. Try "2002 Ford F-150". I found several hits that listed standard specs and options. I have every option but the moon roof and rear entertainment system.
To find out what gears you have, take a look at the tag attached to the diff cover. There are two rows of numbers. On the lower row, you will find the gear ratio. Mine reads 3L55. The ratio is 3.55:1 and the L stands for Limited Slip. Yours should be about the same.
To get shop manuals, you can call ford or go to their web site. Oh yeah, I also found info on my truck at www.fleet.ford.com. look in VIN decoding.
Again, welcome to King Ranch and enjoy you new ride!

look up a pic of skagel's kranch and check out her beige line-x on her bed, i think you might like how that looks a lot better.
ebay has the manuals on dvd and should have them in book form from time to time.

I followed up with the Ford fleet website, and found that service manuals can be ordered online at www.helminc.com. The paper service manual is $180, the CD-ROM version is $170, the electrical paper manual is $60. They also sell TSB's for $6 each.

here's a thread on decoding the label: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ght=Axle+Ratio

Welcome to the forum WoO. I'm three weeks into my KR ownership and loving every minute of it. Lots to learn so ask away. All your questions are things I wonder about and there are some folks on this board that are an abundance of knowledge.

Thanks for the link, OZ. I found the CD-ROM for $170. I was a little disappointed that it didn't have any details about the product. I assume this is all the bells and whistles, as far as maintenance, repair, etc.?

What was most interesting to me about that site was it sold TSB's. I had thought that TSB's were only available by subscription.
I suspect that Alldata has the same information available through their DIY subscription, but that's only online and yearly fees add up.
