I feel soooo unclean!

Long story short,

Mama's old beater Mazda Protoge suffered catastrophic engine failure a couple of weeks ago. It was already on it's last legs but we were hoping it would last 8 more truck payments, alas 'twas not to be

Now the dilemma, what to buy. I REALLY wanted to get HER an '04 Shadow Grey convertible GT (the Mustang, the GT I REALLY want isn't a ragtop ). However my stepfather retired from GM and I get GMS pricing (you can see where this going can't you?). I (ok SHE) is now the proud owner of a 2004 Grand Prix GT2 with a sunroof, power seats, and OnStar (at my insistance, I will save the interest on the loan in unlock fees!). I had to drive to Pittsburg (5.5 hrs) to get it but saved roughly 8k.

Pros:
It has OnStar.
It is a pretty nice vehicle all told.
I saved 8k.
Mama is happy ('cause if she aint, nobody aint).
It has OnStar

Cons:
It's GM.
My King does NOT want to share the driveway!
Someone else will be driving that '04 Shadow Grey convertible GT

Can I please get some absolution here?

Pooh, the traitor...

A pricetag is a pricetag the way I look at it! Sounds like you probably got an EXCELLENT deal on a very nice car.

I'd just remind her that you had to break down and buy a GM vehicle despite your deep rooted loyalty to FoMoCo. Anytime that she gives you any poo (pardon the pun poohbear), just tell her that the GM can and will be replaced with a Ford if she doesn't watch it. LOL!

Pricetag schmicetag. You are on my list now pooh. GM product, (shakes his head in disgust). I can't believe it. If it was a corvette I could let it slip. Maybe even an H2, but a Grand Prix? Where's your loyalty dude?

Well, I think this is terrible. My buddy has a perfectly good replacement Prodige for sale, and you didn't even bother calling him.

Let's don't talk loyalty. The first time I went to see my Dad with my first Ford he made me park in the neighbor's drive. Besides, with owning two MOPAR's I'm disloyal for having my truck...

Yes I do welfare. I didn't think that was a common known thing.

And BTW, closer, why not talk loyalty? I'm a diehard blue oval boy. That's why I'm here. You obviously thought there was something good about the F150 or you wouldn't have one right? Sell the nopars and buy another blue oval.

GO FORD OR GO HOME!!!

I like my, Ford got no problems with it. But price was the only thing that made me buy a Ford.

And the MOPAR's will be around long after I have parted with my Ford... sorry... again no complaints with the Ford...

IL6,
Sorry man but loyalty stops at "broke" Actually the reason I have a Ford truck is that I like the Fords better, period, not so much because they are Fords but because they "feel" better in build and look better (still out on the '04)

When I traded in my '00 Lightning (pausing for a good sob now because THERE IS NO PEER), I test drove pretty much every "practical" truck (e.g. crew cab types) I could find and the King and for that matter an XLT was cheaper and better built so I stuck with Ford. On a side note they did have a couple of schweet Z06s there but I'm not a 'vette man (they also had this killer used Jag XK8, I AM a Jag man...).

Pkagel,
Nah that "touch shift" comes with the GTP CompG package, but it is nice. Even the GT2 performance at 200hp with the Magnasteer and Widetrack is not too shabby. The GTP is nice but their SC only adds 60hp, My nephew had one with the HUD and my wife drove it, her comment: yeah it's nice but it aint the Lightning...

Closer,
Sorry but the idea was to get rid of the Protoge...

Yeah I know everybody. I just had to give ya'll some crap about it. I'm a die hard Ford guy. All I have ever owned since a kid. Different strokes for different folks as they say. That's why they make different cars right? But I will say this, working for a company that is very much in the middle of the automotive industry, I definitely would not buy anything but an American made car. Say what you want, that's just me. I guess that's why the GM's and Chrysler's don't bother me as much as the Toyota's and Honda's. Being a big NASCAR guy also, Toyota's entry in the Craftsman Truck Series was like driving a stake in my heart. This is truly the last year of an era. No more Winston Cup, Toyota in the trucks next year. Man, where is this country headed?

Il6fan, drops his head and slowly walks off into the sunset.

Make duplicate key. Drive it to D.C. or Baltimore. Park on the street with extra key in it. Use insurance $ on Mustang GT!!

hey its a nice car. she won't be unhappy and it will be her car after all.

You just keep driving the truck.

welfare wagon:

Pontiac stands for Excitement. At least thats what the ads tell us.

But if you meant the other thing... let's not go down that road. This isn't the appropriate place for that thinking.
