Question King Ranch Toolbox

Hey guys! I was surfing the internet for a toolbox for my '03 KR and wanted to know a few things. I know that most of you guys probably keep your truck as garage queens and don't get me wrong I keep mine pretty close to that but I'm an Electrical Engineer who works on power plants and has a moderate amount of equipment to carry (Voltmeters, tripods, meggers, etc.). I wanted to know:

1. What is the best brand to go with. (I am looking for something stylish as well as durable. I am planning on getting it sprayed with Line-X the Arizona Beige color)

2. Where can I get one from? (Does Ford offer one in the '03 because I couldn't find one for a Supercrew at Fordaccessoriesstore.com)

3. Do you have to make major modifications to the bedliner to put one in?

Does anybody know a website, store, brand name, catalog or anything that could get me started with my search. My first major concern is something that will maintain the KR's style and secondly durability. I spoke with a Line-X dealer here that would spray the box and he said that would make it last basically forever but for sure as long as I own the truck. I saw on a thread I read, that somebody actually had to modify a black one to fit (can't remember who) so if you read this could you help me out on what you did. Thanks in advance and I know I'll get a solid answer from the vast knowledge at this site.

I have seen several KR's in South Texas with tool boxes and they really don't look out of place at all.

Color coding one should look really fine !

I don't have experience of differing types myself but will expect others here will be able to put you on the right track.

By the way gang, if you're reading this (Or interested for that matter) I'm back in the UK for a few weeks, getting the house ready for the winter, but hope to be back in the US for Thanksgiving.

Very sad putting the truck into store once more....even more so having to buy a new California Cover as of course the one for the 01 KR wouldn't fit the changed body style of the '04.

(Just rubbing it in again Brad !)

My tool box is by far the best thing I purchased for my truck. I have the captains chairs in the back of my truck and they don't accomodate much when folded down.
I suggest the UWS brand of tool boxes. I have had them for over 10 years and they are the best by far. Mine is the chromed diamond plate with a tubular bar that wraps aound the top of the cover. It just makes it look better. Sometimes I wish i would have gone with the black diamond plate instead ,because the chromed finish gets so dirty and is very hard to clean. But the chrome does look better.
I had to do no modifications to my bedliner to get it in, just four simple, slef-tapping screws and your on your way. You cannot get the deep box because of the wheel wells coming up to far.
I hope this helps and I highly encourage you to get a tool box instead of those fiberglass bed covers, Tool boxes are way more attractive on a truck.

Thanks Len and Raceway....I'll look into the UWS brand. I have the captain chairs in the back as well and it doesn't leave much room for storage. Did you get yours from a website or store? Was it necessary to give dimensions or did you just tell them the type of truck?

Wow, Len...every winter you put your truck in storage. Exactly what I said GARAGE QUEENS...I wish I could do that to mine but bills still come in the winter too so I must work.

Being in storage in South Texas doesn't mean it's winter!!!

Not down there anyway.

It just goes into store for security when I am not in the States...which could be anytime of the year.

Yes...about the only consolation for having crossed the Atlantic so many times is the permanent upgrade to business class using our US Airways dividend miles...almost makes the journey pleasant !!

Most big tire shops in the south carry UWS or can get them. You just need to tell them you have a screw and that should clue them on what type of box you need.

Romello,

I had a 2001 King Ranch Super Crew with a deep Better Built box that I've had for sale for over a month on F150 Online in the classified section. I have pictures of it in my gallery if you're interested. The price is negotiable.

Later,

Romello,

Here's a few web sites that might help you.

This one is specific to the Super Crew:
http://www.dawsbetterbuilt.com/webpa...id=2&prodapp=1

This is Daws Better Built's homepage:
http://www.dawsbetterbuilt.com/webpage.cfm?webid=16

Here's a website for UWS tool boxes:
http://unitedweldingservices.com/custom.html

There are a slew of dealers selling UWS tool boxes, just search for UWS tool boxes.

BTW, I don't think anyone sells a deep version tool box for the Super Crew, I modified my deep Better Built box to fit my Super Crew KR and I had it done professionally so no one can really tell that it wasn't factory made.

Later,

~DM~

DAVEMAN,

I am interested taking a look at your box. How about I email you about it. I'm in West Ashley now and can come to Summerville this weekend.

Oh, and thanks everybody for your help.
