A huge ...."WHOOPS"

Oh dear.....

Just had a call from my dealer.

They took the new truck to have the tonneau cover fitted this morning.

It wouldn't fit !!!

The firm in question had made the presumption that an 03 would fit the 04 !!!

I knew it wouldn't and had thought at the time...Gee, this is impressive...a local company down here got the 04 Tonneaus already, when in fact I had checked with several big names who didn't have them !

So, the dealer knew that I wouldn't take the truck without a tonneau...we need that security when travelling !

I might have to pull out of this deal already....

I HATE THAT !!!!

Aren't some people useless !!?

Will Lenny hang on to his King Ranch or will he stumble into a 2004 F-150 without the modifications that are absolutely necessary for his travels? Stay tuned and see next week on "LENNY'S 04 FOLLIES". (echos)

It's probably that langauge barrier that caused the confusion at the dealership. You know, the "king's English" and the "Texas" dialect. I always thought you "King" Rancher's talked a little funny.

This deal is fast falling apart.

You know, I nearly didn't post the other day.
I thought "No...I'll wait until I actually have it"....but then you know how things are...I had signed all the papers and they promised me the truck Monday along with the Tonneau, which for our lifestyle is totally essential.

Today I phoned every accessory company I could think of, and no one sees a tonneau coming in for the 04 before 3/4 weeks when I will be headed back to the UK, albeit only for a month.

If something doesn't happen quickly then I'll be hanging onto the 01 until the 04 KR is ready !!!

Thanks very much for that.

I did actually try to call Leer today, but their automated system was only able to direct me to a local number that was unavailable.

I will try to get a little further tomorrow.

I will let you know how I get on.

Cheers

No offense but it looks a little big in the rear with that Leer

Who was it that sang "Fat bottom girls you make the rocking world go round"?

You know, they make little cameras that sit in te back with a little display in/on the dash. You'd need something for that thing. I thought the 02 with the ARE cover was high. But that thing

edit: I must say that does look nice on that black truck.

Why do I keep the wife for goodness sake !

Thanks for all the comments.....I will be making phone calls re. ARE and Leer this morning. If anyone can get me one within a week I will go for it, otherwise the security issue starts to cause problems.

( 'er indoors has drawn the line at stopping up all night while the truck is in motel car parks!)

Mike and ViperGrendal.....

You were right...both Leer and ARE have the tops for the new F150 in production.
However very few have made it through to the dealers yet.....I spent the day on the phone and I could only locate one, already painted black, in Corpus Christi.

The truck I was due to have I was really only "putting up" with because it was at my usual dealer, and in the nearest I could find to my preferred color...But it had a moon roof which to me is a pointless accessory....down here it is much too hot to bother with, and the resale value when that time comes along isn't worth a dang.
So regretfully this morning I cancelled the deal and have spent the rest of the day phoning dealers throughout the Rio Grande Valley....Geesh...how do you guys put up with the bluster that most of them put out...they all start off so confident..."Oh Yes we can get you one...no problemo...then half an hour of waiting around tell you, Gee, No we can't help.

Do you know one stupid dealership even got the Sales manager involved and when he found out I was really waiting for a new 04 KR said very confidently....Oh the 04's are available in Kingsville !

NOW....for a split second even I was fooled...he even asked me what color I wanted !
I said "How the hell can I tell you that when no information has been given out yet !".
He left saying "I'll come back and tell you what's available".

I turned to the other sales assistant there and said...."He doesn't know what he's talking about"

I think she felt a little embarassed...but of course 10 minutes later the manager came back saying...Oh ...we can probably get you one the end of next year.

Who DO they think they are dealing with !

The very next place we went into had a Lariat and the sales guy was going to get the key (It wasn't the right spec by the way ).
Then he asked to look at my drivers licence....(I nearly showed him my UK licence just to confuse him)...but showed him my TX licence......he said "Oh I need it to go make a copy"

What !?...says I....Just to pull it out from the line and look at it !!

Oh Yes he says...insurance regulations !!!

I basically said "Get lost" and went to see the dealer principal.

I said...Don't your sales people have ANY common sense to see that as someone in my ***** 50's I don't exactly look like I will hold a gun to his head....and I only want him to pull it out of the line.... plus my wife and a lady friend both very well dressed were with me.

Oh he said..."Insurance regulations"

Well I said..."they.ve just lost you a possible sale "

At which point he admitted that he could have pulled the truck out...only a test drive needed the licence (I still wouldn't have done it out of principal)

....I've tested 200K automobiles without that !

He said I must have confused the sales rep.....

I said..."Well I'll bear your advice in mind the next time I'm sitting in the High Court in London sentencing someone to life for rape or murder.

We wouldn't like them to get confused and think they'd been given probation, would we !!!? "

I got back in the KR and our lady friend said....Well John, How do you feel without that piece of your mind !!!

Got home, spent another hour on the phone and at the end of the day think I might have found a dealer in Corpus Christi who can help.....that will be great because that's where the tonneau is.....

BET ITS BEEN SOLD BY THE TIME I FIND THE RIGHT TRUCK !!!
