It's not all fun.....

It's not all fun...
....Driving an Aston Martin !

Just drove back to the English Midlands from the South Coast....a journey of 200 plus miles in temperatures of 70/80.

Driving up the motorways at slightly illegal speeds (ie mostly close to 100)., and as we came off the motorway slip road (Freeway ramp to you guys) lifted off the throttle.

Trouble was the throttle didn't close and it took all my force on the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a standstill before I careened into something untoward.

Aston Martin sent out a technician and the answer was throttle cables that had tightened uo in the extreme heat of the engine bay on a hot day.....they had probably been a little too tight to start with.

Nevertheless Aston Martin will be having a strongly worded phone call from me on Monday.

OK, I know it's not an F 150 but many of you guys are as keen on cars as me and I just thought you would like to know that owning a supercar isn't all pleasure !!!

If you're not happy with it Lenny, I'll take it and never complain, no matter what the thing does

Aston Martin

70-80 degrees isn't that hot. It's over 90 degrees here in South Florida, not including the humidity factor, and i'm sure its even hotter in Texas!

We've had several over 100 days here in NC, and we are generally in the high 90's

Lenny,

I'm glad you're safe. Did you bother to shut down the engine once you realized the throttle cable was stuck? I'm sure the engine would've resisted shutting down since it was hot and still being fed fuel but I assume it would be fuel injected and in that case shutting down the ignition should've stopped the fuel flow. Why don't you get a picture as well so we can see this beauty and where it ended up after stopping.

Later and keep it between the ditches,

~DM~

Hi Dave,
I tried putting the touchtronic gearbox into neutral but the engine was racing faster and faster, and then putting it into gear caused a tremendous jolt....I was in stop start traffic at one of our busiest motorway intersections but I was not far from home when I decided to try to make it there.
Anyway I will be contacting Aston about it tomorrow.
You may have missed a previous post with a pic. so I'll put one here.
By the way I won the National AM Spring Concours with it in the DB7 and Vanquish class.
I was gobsmacked...but very pleased.

Go to the AMOC web site to see the full story and an interesting postscript about when the same thing happened to me....
BUT IN AN AIRCRAFT I WAS PILOTING !

Kind of a scary story Len. Glad to know that all turned out okay (other than having the blood pressure shoot WAY up).

That is a beautiful car. Best of luck in dealing with AM on getting your issue resolved. There's little to no excuse for something like that.

AM Works Service are collecting the car today to investigate.

However I have a nasty feeling they won't be able to replicate the problem or say why it may have happened !

PS Check your E Mail

Ta ever so !

KR Meeting later this year.

A while ago we were considering the possibility of a get together of KR owners.
Daveman tried hard a couple of years ago and though 3 of us met up it wasn't exactly what Dave had envisaged !
Then more recently we rather bludgeoned dear ol' RP to consider meeting up in his locale.
However despite a non too subtle hint from me a while ago he has remained quiet on the subject...probably not surprising considering the Tee Shirt/Sticker effort that he put in !

My location in the US is not exactly conducive to meeting there...it's about as far south as you can get without being in Mexico.

Even the King Ranch itself is way south for most folk.

Also the chances of getting a bunch of people to agree on a location and time is next to impossible given the size of the US.
(Though I will be travelling 5000 miles to get there !!)

If anyone would really like to meet up (and I do have doubts about the serious need or desire to do so) then I would be happy to co-ordinate it if enough people commited to the idea.

I think it would really have to be centrally located although the King Ranch is obviously the right place to be.

To give some substance to the idea I will suggest last weekend in September or first weekend in October.

Any thoughts will be put into the melting pot....
