Attention Bug shield Painters
Attention Bug shield Painters
I know that a couple of guys (and maybe a girl) have done this on this forum so I'm looking fer advice. I'm painting the bug shield on my truck, I ordered the primer and paint with the flex additive. However, I've just got a rattle-can of regular dupli-color clearcoat that doens't have the flex additive. Has anyone else used the auto-parts store clear-coat and what were the results? BTW I'm painting the front of a smoke colored deflector.

Actually, I have painted some bugshields this way and ended up having to repaint as there were some nicks over time. I would suggest the clear bug shield and just sell the current one you have. But, if you are going to do it, scruff it up good! You can primer it as you need to paint both sides any way and will not see the primer, I did use clear coat on one that didn't have flex and it worked, but I guess you should try to get some that has the flex in it. Just take the other back as any auto part will have clear with flex as there are so many plastic bumpers out there. This reminded me that I have a bug shield at my buds paintshop that I dropped 7 months ago to get painted white. I was having him paint the whole thing as it was not a clear one. I have one on my truck now that I did and it was a clear and it is painted arizona beige. Thought I would try the white to see how it looked, but I guess I am happy with the beige one.
