not a thing friend, I was referring to you because you are one of the few international crowd the "illustrious" part referred to your well stated commentary, at times. The comparison was to the internantional mileage you you log, in the UK that is.

Hope that clears things up.

OK....

I wasnt being terribly serious ....as usual !.....I had just seen reference to my name a couple of times and lacking anything more sensible to say, had posted that.
Sometimes the oddest threads develop in that way.

I had noticed a slight edge to a couple of threads lately but I am still on holiday in Madeira....though that is rapidly drawing to an end....but I am much too relaxed to want to enter any jousting matches.

Incidentally for those of you who like BBQ and I know many do....and there are certainly some wonderful places for it in the States...I have just come across something I have never experienced before here in Madeira.

At the traditional local restaurants there is a hole in the middle of the table.....rather as though a parasol should fit through it.
Instead a large metal post is inserted about 4 foot high with 2 hooks.
From that is hung a long spit straight out of one of the fierces oven fires you can imagine....skewered through it some of the tenderest and juciest beef I have ever tasted anywhere!
You just hold your plate underneath and with knife or fork slide one piece at a time off as required.
Really quite superb food., and with 15 year old Malmsey Madeira wine....yummy !

Sounds alot like a Churrascaria, a Brazilian "BBQ" restaurant. (Of course, anything over a hot fire isn't really BBQ - you need a slow long low heat cookin'!) Churrasco cooking is done over an open fire on a spit. Fogo de Chao is one of the more popular ones, I think, and definitely the most popular in Atlanta, GA. I gorge there from time to time.

edit: Since Medeira is in Portugal, it is probably some flavor of Churrasco cooking. Whether it started in Brazil by gauchos and filtered back to Portugal or Portugese colonizers brought it to Brazil, who knows.

Yep, we have a Fogo De Chao and a Texas De Brazil here in Dallas. Impossible to go home hungry unless you are a vegetarian! Some really good stuff.

Nope, must have gone five times and tried to pay with a $2 bill, then it counts...

That is a very valid question Lenny; and to be totally honest with you, I have no freaking idea how it all ties together.

Stay tuned, I'll work on pulling it back into one picture.

LOL!
