Spare Tire Lock
Warning to all with that cheap "Made in China" spare tire lock on your KR....the lock will rust and not work to unlock your spare tire! My KR is a 2002 with only 10K miles and the lock is already rusted beyond belief. Yesterday I went to add a class III hitch to the truck and had to lower the spare tire. The trouble was that the lock was so badly rusted that I couldn't get the key into the lock! I had to use bolt cutters to get the lock off...
This would really suck if you had a flat and were on the side of the road in the rain trying to get your spare unlocked....
MasterLock make a waterproof lock that works nicely... or you could just remove the cable altogether since I don't think many spare tire theives carry that special key you need to lower the spare in the first place...

hey RP......that wasn't a serious comment was it !?
You REALLY didn't know there's a pathetic little cable and padlock on the spare !
Didn't you see it last weekend when you got underneath to clean the chassis !?

Well, when I picked my truck up the key was already on the fob.
I do seem to remember a far distant thread when this issue was called into question and it may be that some trucks were supplied without the lock.
Or I suppose it may have been a local dealer thing that they just did as a bonus....
......
Interesting to know how many other KR'ers have the feature.
(If you can call it that !)

It was supposed to be standard on the '02's, but most of us didn't recieve it on our trucks....I being one of those people.....never complained about it though.....I do believe it was in the '02 literature though.

Errr, unless the ignition key fits the lock I sure hope my wife's KR doesn't have one. I know my Expi doesn't (99) cuase I had to change a flat on that bad boy once. Man, that was an experience. 95 degrees 80% humidity on hot pavement and I had no idea how to work that stupid factory jack. Took me over an hour, but I digress.
My 00 HD doesn't have a spare tire lock either.
I know the 02 HD's come with a special key thing in the glovebox, and you stick it on the end of the long rod that you put in the bumper hole to lower the spare down. Without the lock adapter for that, you can't lower the spare down. 00's didn't have this though
