Unhappy Well, it's official...

Well, I've been bustin' my hump this morning packing things up. The plant I work at currently is closing and transferring all business to Mexico. I will be moving to another facility so I still have a job, but today we were boxing up paperwork, cleaning out desks, file cabinets etc. They announced the closure a couple of months ago, but now that the office is almost bare, it hits home. I now have about 30 feet of extra space tho. Kind of sad to see everything leaving. Don't know how long it will be until I move, probably the end of the year, but, it will be getting lonely around here. The first round of layoffs start the end of the month for those who will be out of work. That's the really sad thing. Anyway, not to bring anybody down, but just venting a little emotion here. I am not going anywhere far from this board tho. Talk to everyone later.

Think I'l go have a smoke.

We've got about 9 facilities in the Rockford area here. I will be moving to one of those, just not sure which one yet. I won't have to relocate my home dwelling, which is good, just my work location.

I'm guessing that you worked for Ingersoll?? Or is the economy in that area that bad that it extends to other companies?

We had some reps here from Ingersoll retrofitting one of our Waldrich-Seigen mills until the company went flat-line. That sucks for everyone in that area, especially after 112 years in Rockford!

Good luck to ya'

No actually, I work for Textron Fastening Systems, part of Textron, Inc. We've got several facilities in the Rockford area. That Ingersoll thing really did suck. Those people came into work at 8:00 on April 15th, had a meeting at 9:00 and were told to have their desks and areas cleared by noon. I read that there were locksmiths changing the door locks as people were trying to get their belongings out. 112 years is a long time. In the paper today tho it said there are two different firms looking at buying Ingersoll and reopening it here in Rockford. That would be a big boost. Anyway, thanks for the concern, like I said, I have a job, just not sure at which plant it will be.

IL6fan,

Man that's a tough break on the plant closure. Change is always hard but it often opens new opportunities that you had never considered.

Your situation is one reason I have always bought Made in USA or Canada whenever possible. I guarantee there won't be many Mexican workers buying King Ranch or Lariat pick up trucks.

Good luck

I feel for you brother. Layoffs and/or closings are never fun. I work for our local phone company and last Dec 19 of all times they had the first layoffs ever in the history of the company. We are talking over 100 years in business, wars, depressions, etc. It did not affect me personally but we lost some 3,000 people in the state and 20 people in my location alone. And now, what a surprise, they are talking of more layoffs. Doesn't someone realize if this pace keeps up there will be very few people making enough money to buy any of these companies products? Sorryfor the soap box. Keep the faith.
