Appearance concern/question

OK so I have to replace my shocks anyways so why not just do a suspension lift while I am at it right? Well, my stock size AT/S tires have only 11k on them and I don't want to replace them until I need to....so my question is do ya think my tires will look ridiculous with a 6" lift?

yep, they will be way too small but that would be the least of my worries in doing this silly mod for no benifit.

tires would still look good with up to a three inch lift but nothing above that. I'm all for a 6" lift but you will def need bigger tires

6 inch heels?? Geesh... that girl would be 8 feet tall then!!! She could hike her skirt up and climb into the bed of the truck without having to 'hop' upwards.

LOL!

Sarah, here's a link to Big Blue with the stock tires on for the winter.

It looks silly.

I don't mind admitting, but RP does have a very good point there.....all the more reason I need a 6" lift......It will help balance out the personal height/truck height ratio. ....that sounded logical in my head.

good grief now I am just going to have to replace my tires too....It is a good thing my mom has the same tires on her truck and eventually....10 years from now she may need to replace them.

A six inch lift will definately require new tires. Along with this is a great increase in road noise. Be prepared for that. In my very limited experience, a larger tire (>17") usually means more knobby tread. Otherwise you'll be installing a smooth transport truck tire.

The increased knobby will be great for your sand dunes, but not for your sound level on the highway. My advice is to have RockPick build you a sub and a sound sytem on steriods, so that the increased road noise from the new tires/suspension lift/new shock-mod is dampened by the sweet new audio sys.

I'm bringing "Elvis" (my KR) to see The Boss and the E-Street Band tomorrow night at the Corel Centre. Elvis will Prove it all Night, showing that he's Born To Run, then hopefully it's off to Candy's Room!

Another thing to consider is if the truck will fit in your garage with a 6" lift. It seems to spend most of it's life there so it's a big consideration

I know it won't fit in the front garage, but the back garage has a higher clearance garage door...haven't had a chance to do the measurements and yes this is a major consideration.

To answer your original question - yes, IMO lifted trucks without a corresponding change in tire size look bad.

To pose a question of my own - why lift it? Have you found yourself having clearance issues, or otherwise limited by the current ride height? In other words, if it ain't broke, don't "fix" it. Don't take this the wrong way, because I have definitely seen some killer lifted rides, and if I found myself in a position where I needed more clearance, I would be all over it. However, when you get into something as major as a suspension lift just for appearance, it seems rather senseless to me. You are voiding your factory warranty on quite a few areas to look good? I guess the practical side of me just can't justify it unless I actually need it.

My $0.02 USD - and I hope no one takes it as a flame, because like I said - there are some awesome looking lifted rigs on here.

Well, Tomas get used off road and a higher ride height would certainly be beneficial along with some quality mudding tires....still going back and forth on this one.

Skagel, IMHO, a 6" lift is way too much for your truck. I prefer a 2-3" lift with maybe some nice 34" tires and rims. And BTW, if you are going to spend the money on a lift, why hold out for the bigger tires? You are going to have big bucks in the lift what's another couple grand for some wheels and tires? I saw an episode of Trucks a couple of weeks back and they had an FX4 Supercrew that they were doing some mods on. No lifts tho, wanted to keep it "drivable". They did however put some new wheels and tires on it. The wheels were 18 x 10, and I believe the tires were 325/60-18's. Don't quote me on the exact size, but it was said that calculating it out, they came out right at 33" tall. No lift was required, but he did trim the plastic at the bottom of the wheel wells. It looked awesome. Still had a daily drivable truck and the great look of some bigger wheels and tires on it. I really think you'd be better off just leaving the truck at it's regular height, (maybe crank the torsion bars to level the front) and get some bigger wheels and tires anyway. I like the look of the BFG 285's on the stock KR wheels. A couple of pics I've seen really look sharp. Anyway, just my opinion.
