King Ranch Trade-In Value???
Hello KR Buddies,
It has been a long time since we've spoken and I'm not dead...yet.
Believe it or not, I'm considering selling my KR and buying a 2003 Super Crew FX4 to get the updated driveline, sound abatement and other fixes and improvements not found on my 2001 KR as well as great pricing. I've done a search on this forum and was almost certain this was asked before but was unable to find any previous threads.
Questions:
1. What is a good trade-in offer for a clean 2001 Super Crew Chesnut KR with less than 13,000 miles, moon roof and towing package?
2. What would be a fair asking price on the open market for the same truck above to move fairly quickly?
I've researched KBB and Edmunds as shown below:
KBB:
Trade-In Value for above described truck $24,125
Private Party sale for above $27,670
Edmunds:
Trade-In Value for above described truck $23,567
Private Party sale for above $26,029
Dealer Retail $28,301
My dealer has made me an offer of $22,500 but I'm not very anxious to deal at that price.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
~DM~

Hey Dave.....
Nice to hear from you again......
Not so nice to hear the KR may be going....
My thoughts are....Can't you wait for 2004 KR or whenever the next one appears ?
You ought to have the first !

Lenny,
I'm only considering the '03 Super Crew due and its improvements and of the current deals that I've been offered. I love the King Ranch package as much as most but not as much as Rock. The new KRs are just too expensive for me now as I got mine in a sweet deal and now the value of mine has dropped by $4000 and the price of new KRs has risen by more than $2000 which puts me in the hole for around $6000. If I buy a new '04 KR, my situation only gets worse as there are no deals available for about a year after initial release.
RockPick,
Thanks for nothing Pal...I don't blame you though and I figured I'd get some responses just like yours. I guess it's like asking your wife if it's okay to trade her in on a young perfectly shaped beauty with all new features and expect a positive answer. Hahahahahaha
Everyone,
If anyone is interested, I'm accepting reasonable offers over $22,500 for my KR baby. BTW, my warranty has more than 1.5 years left as I purchased in September of 2001.
Later,
~DM~

$22,500 seems pretty low, but what you are seeing is the downside of all the good deals on the new trucks - the used market takes a tumble.
I would work them for a little more trade. Remember if you trade it in you will only have to pay taxes on the difference of the trade and the new truck. So instead of paying taxes on $28k, you only pay on ~$5k. Where I live thats $1850. Keep that in mind if you decide to sell on your own.
Good luck.

I just hate to see you trade her... I know... I know... we'll all have these issues to deal with at some point in time (including me - I went and looked at Expys tonight) but, you're the senior most member in this group. You leave, we'll all have to find a bridge and plumit to our deaths as we will have no leadership to follow. I know, I know... we still have Lenny (that just means we need a higher bridge to ensure the inevitable - HAHAHA! JK LEN!)...
Whatever you decide to do.... whenever you decide to do it...
I'm not behind you.

Hi Daveman
Nice to hear from you. firsttimeFord brings up a good point. Why not wait for an 04? New body style and all that. The only down side is I do not like to buy first year editions. I like to allow time to get the bugs worked out first. Good luck what ever you decide.

Everyone,
Being April Fools Day, I was tempted to say me attempting to sell my KR was as a joke but it wasn't. However, based on what I've been offered from my dealer as well as the great pricing they offered me for a new 2003, I'm probably not going to make a change now as I'd have to put out cash from my pocket to deal. I may wait for the '04s, 05's or even wait for the '06s and see what happens to prices and incentives later. Thanks for those that tried to help me with positive suggestions.

I had positive suggestions... mainly consisting of KEEP THE TRUCK!
Glad to hear that you're going to keep her... We won't have to vote you off the island now as Lenny had suggested in an email sent to me earlier.

Well, Daveman let me know if you want X-plan I can generate you a PIN for it.....you will probably get a better deal with an X-plan....ask your dealer what the X-plan price is and let me know.

Skagel - So now you say you can get the X-plan. Why didn't you tell me this before I bought my new truck? I supposedly can get it thru my employer, but have tried in the past and had major hassle so I just foregoed(?) it. I think it's because I'm in IL and not MI. Fellow employess in our MI facilities seem to have no problem with it, but I seem to. What is your secret? I would like to know. About the X-plan of course, don't think nasty now. Just curious. Thanks for the info. By the way, what is the correct grammar on the past tense side of forego? forewent? hmmmmm..
I will have to think about that one.

Dave,
Good to see your still kickin ! I just recently traded my '01 KR (4x2) in. Mine had the moonroof, LS, 5.4, Ford bedliner, chestnut with 30K miles, flowmaster catback. Garage kept and VERY clean. I got 22K for it from a Nissan store . The Ford dealership only offered 19K toward a Super Duty trade.
You have made a lot of mods to your truck, IMO I think you should try to sell it outright. The market is a little soft right now on the larger trucks. (fuel prices I guess) If you really must trade it I would not trade for less than 23K. Keep in mind there are no King Ranches being produced right now.
I miss mine from time to time, I know you'll miss yours once its gone.
Good luck with the decision

Hey Daveman, not trying to get you to sell, but my neighbor (who I went with in October 02 to look at the KRs as she wanted one, and I ended up getting one) now wants a nice used one. She has wanted a KR for a couple of years and just can't unload her new beetle (bought when they were way too expensive!!) so she has to get a used one. She was going to buy the one that was over here and on ebay (which someone bought today) at the buy it now of 23500.00. She even had the bank all ready to deposit the loan money, then someone snagged it this morning. So, she might be interested, especially since it has only 13K miles on it. Let me know.
