Help!! I need some reassuring... or Psychiatric help!
All I have ever owned is pickup trucks. To me a truck is just that... a truck, and should be used like one. I have never been worried about getting my truck dirty, or stuck, or scratched. After all, a truck is built to be a workhorse. Right?
Well this weekend, I took my truck up to the camp on the lake. In addition to a quiet weekend with no pager or cellphone, I had gone there to help a neighbor move his camp, a 50' mobile home. When I arrived, I found the Chevy 1-ton bogged to the axles in the red mud from all the tongue weight. The tow strap was attached and waiting for my arrival, so with no fear, I jumped right in and put the KR in 4low. I never thought twice about it and pulled both the Chevy and the trailer to the road with no incidents. The rainy weekend continued. I was traveling daily on the muddy roads and frequently shifting to 4wd. Nothing ever bothered me... So what's the problem??
I returned home late last night and when I woke up this morning and walked outside I freaked out. My truck was dirty!! What is this feeling? I've never worried about that before! I, like so many others devoted to thier work, have always been defined by my job. As a farmer/rancher, and now in the oilfield, I have never been bothered by a dirty truck. Wash it only before a date (in the autowash or course) and the only purpose of waxing was to convince myself that I was going to get a better trade-in value. So what is it about this King Ranch that makes me feel this way? Is there something in the smell of the leather that makes me feel this way?
I cancelled all my plans for the day and spent the WHOLE DAY vacuuming, washing, and waxing. The reassuring I need is for everyone here to convince me that the King Ranch is indeed a truck and can be used as one with no shame... I'm going crazy here... Maybe Ford should issue a complimentary prescription of prozac with each new purchase. HELP!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Growing up in the farm lands of Eastern Oregon, trucks got DIRTY. I've gotten better about keeping my rigs clean since moving to FL but it's a good thing my wife drives the KR.
Whenever I go back to OR to visit my folks I always give my dad a hard time about cleaning his truck. Open up the passenger door on the thing and dirt clods fall out.

Great story... LMAO!!
Sounds like you've been chomped on by the KR bug (just like the majority of the rest of us)... it's a disease... plain and simple. Modern medicine has yet to determine the exact origin nor a common cure. It's very contagious and can be spread from one owner to another by simply 'looking' at a King Ranch F-150/250.
Best of luck with your disease....
We all have it too... we've learned to deal with it! LOL!

Hey coilfrac, I am glad to see that others are out there. I was beginning to think(something new i'm going to try) that I was the only person insane enough to use my KR like a truck.
I put motorcycles, deer, elk, wood, ect. in my truck. Yes at first I was ashamed to admit this. Thanks to others like you, no more. I am glad to see that others out there will take out the KR in mud rain and God forbid the four letter word SNOW. My anxiety is now lifted.

LOL yet another KR owner being overcome by the leather. Don't fret. We here in the KR forum understand. when your friends and family all think your nuts you can come here and we will make you feel better.
I know how you all feel. I like my truck where it is. Sitting clean under cover and has not moved in three weeks now. A piece of art!! Not that we have salty roads or snow or any of that here in Dallas, Texas, but I will not take it out until summer. Only on the weekends too. But even then it will depend on the damn gas prices as they are now up to 1.79 here! Looks great just sittin pretty. A great conversation piece!!!
