2003 King Ranch
I recently purchased a 2003 King Ranch Super Crew after driving Rangers for 17 years, it's the best move I've ever made. I wanted the Estate Green but my dealer didn't have one in stock, but when I saw the White King Ranch it was love at first sight. I plan to retire in 3 1/2 years and this is probably the last vehicle I will have to buy for myself since I usually put 130,000-150,000 miles on my Fords before I get rid of them.
I just instaled an Astro fiberglass lid and Bed rug, this is what I call a real Cowboy Cadillac. I hope to later install a K&N airfilter and Magnaflow exhaust.
All I can say is this truck is a head turner and I feel like I belong to an elite group of truck owners. Now if I can just get the little woman to go back to her Crown Vic and let me have the KR back.

Welcome to the forum from an Anglophile Texan.......
( coming back for a couple of months a week on Tuesday I'm very pleased to say)
We all know what a KR looks like but still like to see pics of more...especially the new colors like the white.
So when you can let's see what yours looks like. (As the boys used to say to each other in the playground !)
Remind me where Garland is?

Welcome, and by the way, I can only assume you went to KU (jayhawker). Am I correct?
To answer your question Lenticular, Garland is a suburb northeast of Dallas.
I didn't attend KU but since I grew up in Kansas my handle has been Jayhawker for 30 years, I'm a big Jayhawks basketball fan and K-State football.
I will try to post a picture of my KR as soon as I get one, need to borrow a digital camera first. According to the Salesperson the white King Ranch is new this year, I've only seen one other on the streets of Big D, it's a sharp rig.

OK..thanks for that.
I was actually being rather lazy as I have a US atlas in the room here with me.
I'm not sure why but I was fairly sure that it was close to Dallas.
I haven't been to that area for a while but it was to DFW that I first came in 1979 to build up my flying hours (At Meachem Field).
We loved Tx and have been coming back ever since!
Yes the white is a new colour for this year.
Up 'til yet we have only had 3 colors to argue over.
(Come out of the woodwork Daveman to do your bit for Chestnut !)
But all the arguements about colour only in good humor of course.
(After accepting that Chestnut is best !)

So, you're a pilot too, Lenticular. I got my ATP over at Meachan Field in 1986, back when I was flying Pipeline Patrol for Mobil Oil.
My boss has a Chestnut King Ranch, didn't want anyone to think I was trying to gain brownie points by driving the exact same truck.
Gotta say, the white looks pretty cool, maybe too cool for an old man.

Feet firmly on the ground now I'm afraid, except for our TransAtlantic commercial flights.
Too many friends killed and near misses myself.
My best pal I did most of my flying with was killed in a mid air over the Dover VOR a while back (Instrument training a student under the hood ).
Then only last year another good friend was killed while demonstrating probably the world's finest restored Spitfire in France.
That after my wife and I lost all our electrics on the ILS at Le Touquet in northern France while still in the clag at less than 100
(yes, a hundred) feet !
We had to turn round and head back to the UK with no radio and navaids.....my wife got out of the plane and swore she would never get back in it.
She never did either !

I'm being tempted to trade in my 2001 F150 on a King Ranch. The seats look great but I am worried about scratches. What about when one of my small dogs goes to the vet etc? Does the leather scratch easily? I had a Cadillac years back with leather seats, the silver trim on my belt came loose and made about a 3 inch cut!
In the pictures the leather looks pretty tough. I really dont have much traffic in my truck so I am leaning toward getting one.

The leather on the KR is really quite thick and tough.
However that doesn't mean to say it won't scratch.
It would be doubtful you or a pet would ever unintentionally go right through the leather though.
You have to be prepared for the leather to acquire a "patina" which means there will be scuff marks etc. through general useage.
It really depends how pernickety you want to be and also how long you intend to keep the truck.
I regularly see and deal with cars that are 50/60/70 years old with original leather, that doesn't look particularly pretty but is unique to that car.
It might be worn and scuffed up but you rarely see cuts right through.
Also there are marks on the seats of each KR that are unique to each vehicle where the cow might have rubbed up against barbed wire.
There is really only one manufacturer that gets around that by getting their hides from Scandinavia where there is no barbed wire....plus they laser cut the hides around any imperfections.
I have tried to keep the leather in my KR as pristine as possible but I know the day will come when a seat gets marked or stained...just something you have to live with !

Lent,
Thanks for the info, I have a saddle that I have had for about 30 years and some boots that are that old. I'm pretty easy on leather and take care of everything so i think I could get along well with the KR. I'm pretty **** about taking care of things. Now to convince the wife.

Good luck.....
and give my regards to "Foat Wuth"
(c.f. one of those books called "Fixin to be Texan" or somesuch....y'know the sort of things furriners read to convince themselves they are really Texan.....instead of "Just gettin' there as quick as they could".)
Let's face it.....why did I buy a truck ?
Next step....get a big dog and rename myself Bubba !
