New Supercrew
New Supercrew
I just found this web site and wanted to post my purchase of a new King Ranch last Saturday. I had been looking for a new truck to replace my 1991 Ford Bronco and when I saw a King Ranch for the first time I knew that was the type of truck I wanted. After going to several dealers everything came together (price, color, options etc) last Saturday evening. I have two questions. What octane gas should I use? (In my Bronco I always used 93 octane) I have a 3.73 Ratio regular axle. Did I make a mistake in not getting a limited slip axle? I tow a 18 foot bass boat and thought as long as I have 4X4 I will not have a problem at the boat ramps.
Boy am I proud of this truck!

That sounds like a great truck. Welcome to the site. I'm sure you'll find all the information out here you'll ever need. I don't have a KR, but I do have the L/S rear end. I don't do much towing, but I really don't think you have much to worry about. If you find out you need it, you can always add it later with a much better aftermarkert part like an Eaton or Auburn or Powertrax.

Welcome Mike. I don't post very often, but these guys (and gals)are a wealth of knowledge.
I have been using regular octane (87-89) for about 6 months now in a range of about -20 to 105 degrees Farenheit with no knocking, pinging, etc. and decent gas milleage. I say decent because I can't stay off the gas pedal in this thing - the 5.4 scoots!

1. I believe the owner's manual states 87 octane, that's what I would use. I actually used 85 (Colorado's 87) until I put the Superchip in.
2. Limited slip is nice, but 4wd will cover for not having it. You may have to put it in 4wd when someone with ls wouldn't. No biggie.

no reason to run any cooler than the octane rating expressed by your manual as you will actually get less power out of it by running 93. maybe not perceivable in the truck but less power never the less.
Thanks for the info everyone. I guess I will have to check out these superchips to see what they are all about. It has been 11 years since I last bought a new vehicle so all this is new to me. Glad to hear that I did not have to have the limited slip axle.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. We here in the KR forum can be a little obsessive of our vehicles, but now that you own one you will surely follow. You can't not follow. They put some sort of drug in our leather that makes us all like this.sarah-----mother of Tomas----2002 KR Screw 4x4 charcoal blue
