D'ya want a humbug ?
Be happy to bring you some from my local sweetie shop.
As I have said before, one of the few things we do better than you lot is CANDY.
We have brought several children of our American friends back to the UK for vacations and the look on their faces in a shop filled with shelves of 'sweets' they have never seen before is a joy to behold !
A humbug is a small boiled sweet ....minty, stripey and buttery.
I still go to my local village sweet shop and ask for a 'quarter' of things like that which are taken from large jars and weighed into small paper bags.
My favorites are 'Acid Drops' (Don't even think it!), and Edinburgh Rock. (Way too difficult to begin to explain!)
As I said, be happy to let you try some !

Actually, it was a retorical question because I thought we all knew. Yours may be one answer Len, but ****ens had something different in mind than candy when his character uttered the famous phrase.
Speaking of candy, a wise American once said "There's a sucker born every minute". That was P.T. Barnum, also known in his day as "The Prince of Humbugs". Barnum liked the title which he got because of his freak shows and other ways of selling people useless things. His definition of humbug was an impostor or the way in which a person sells an idea for something more than it is without actually lying.
The dictionary says:
Traditionally, "humbug" is defined as:
Noun:
1. Something intended to deceive; a hoax or fraud.
2. A person who claims to be other than what he or she is; an impostor.
3. Nonsense; rubbish.
4. Pretense; deception.
Verb-transitive: To deceive or trick.
Verb-intransitive: To practice deception or trickery. To cause to accept what is false, especially by trickery or misrepresentation.[Origin unknown.]

There you go....being Logical again.
It was debatable if you would know what a humbug was ?!
I could not tell if the question was Rhetorical or even Retorical as you so charmingly put it !
I cannot imagine you thought I didn't understand the ****ens connection.
I worked in Rochester, Kent, for many years where ****ens worked and lived, and a few miles along the coast is Broadstairs, where Bleak House still stands.
I just thought I would offer a little insight into a small part of our trivial existence.
I see you ignored my pathetic effort to provide you with a humbug or two as a token at Christmas.
This thread started off by wishing everyone Merry Christmas....
with your misguided efforts at being clever....I'll wish I hadn't bothered !

Len- If you read what I said carefully, and without prejudgement, you will realize I meant no insult to you and certainly didn't think even for a second that you didn't understand where the quote "Bah Humbug" came from. I think it was fair to think you may possibly not have know the related trivia about our P.T. Barnum and his asociation with the term.
I assumed you answered the way you did to be clever and I followed up for anyone still curious.
Merry Christmas Len....and God bless us, everyone.
