Long time lurker
Long time lurker
Hi all, I've been a frequent visitor of this site for some time now and recently have found myself unable to solve a seemingly common problem. I've had my f150 for about 6 years now and when I bought it there were many simple issues that I was able to take care of with the help of this site and some other resources.
When the bigger issues reared their ugly head, a self destructed transfer case that I swapped out for a 01 expedition case which left me without a speedometer and odometer due to no place for a Vss to go, I've been at 195,964 miles for about 3 years now.
That was soon followed by a failing transmission that burned up the clutch plates. I rebuilt it alone using videos on YouTube that focused specifically on the complete rebuild of the 4r70w a/t. I don't remember the channel at the moment but those videos were fantastic for following along with.
Ive had many vehicles and worked on everyone of them in one way or another, a 1966 mustang with a 289 bored over to 302, an 80 Granada with a 5.0, an 82 Chevy C10, 99 Mitsubishi eclipse (RIP), an 03 Mercury sable, a 00 outlander, an 89 Ford probe, a 10 GMC canyon that I got rear-ended in at a stop light by a ram doing 70, he broke his front wheel off right in my *** before clobbering 5 more cars ahead of me, a 96 Yamaha Royal Star, I might be forgetting one or two... 86 Astro van I think...
I have a couple local junkyards that have blessed me numerous times with easily found parts so the DIY approach has always suited me, I've even fixed some issues for others from time to time but now I've gotten into a unique situation with my current vehicle and the diagnosis and repair approach has been difficult since my issue comes from having the engine bay catch fire, melting the engine control, fuel and transmission harnesses, plug wires and injectors, vacuum lines etc..
This happened a little over a month ago and I've since replaced it all and got the truck going again, better than it has ever been even, until I put it into gear, I can't seem to get out of limp mode and I've done nearly everything...
So which area in the forum should I start with seeking help, where I can go into detail about this issue?
Looking forward to becoming part of the community, finally.. thanks!

Welcome to the site! Post your questions in the appropriate forum for your year of truck as a start. Then if you have questions about transmission etc, use a specific forum for that question. Just don’t crosspost to different forums with the same question as that can get confusing for anyone trying to help.

I have a somewhat similar story. For a long time I could not decide to give my beloved truck to someone else for repair. And it all came down to the point where I decided to open my own repair center. It was scary and incredible at the same time. I was lucky to have the Local Business Directory, which helped me a lot. I found like-minded people and colleagues, and the business took off!
