Hey everyone, new here. Just picked up my first f150 two days ago. 97 xlt model w/ a 4.6 4wd. Runs and drives and picked it up for 400 bucks. Not to much rust on it for being here in Illinois. 220k on odometer. Cant do to much to it for now til I get paid. Plan on replacing O2 sensors(just the upstream first), plugs, wires, filter, and oil change. The transfer case shifter is stuck in 2H so I've been spraying wd40 on it and wiggling it back and forth. The previous owner said he never used it. On the 97 models, do you have to lock your wheels or are they automatic? Anyway, thanks for having me and plan on being here for a while. This truck is gonna get a lot done to it I'm the future. Lift, some engine mods, etc. Got to figure out what I want to do first. Lol. Later!!!

Welcome! It doesn't have locking hubs. The axles turn all of the time.

 

It uses a differential lock, not hubs. It may have a lever, but it's still electric shift.

Thanks. I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions as I go along. Right now I'm doing just normal maintenence on the engine. Im dealing with the acceleration issue right now and wanting to die all the time like it's getting to much air to fuel ratio. Also why I want to replace O2 sensors. Obd reader says 02 sensor code so maybe that's my problem. It doesn't go ***** to the wall Wil mid range. It's a working progress that's for sure.

 

An O2 sensor code DOES NOT necessarily mean they are bad. Start a thread in the 97-03 truck forum and post all the issues you are having, along with the EXACT numerical codes.
