Exhaust manifold to long tube headers
Exhaust manifold to long tube headers
Hi guys, let me start by sayin this website is full of real professionals who have given advice to people and saved them thousands and I myself say thank you. So I finally decided to tackle my rotted exhaust manifold on my 99 f150 5.4l 2v. Let me tell you now I had a quote of 1200$ So I said no way i'll teache myself. It took around 2 hrs to remove the DR side manifold i only removed the plastic wheel liner and made due with what I had. 2 of the nuts I didn't want to fight with so I cut them off, heat didn't do anything because I didn't have an oxy/acy torch so I snapped the studs that didn't buge. I bought a handful of grade 8 nuts at tractor supply for 2$ I welded the nut to the stud and it was amazing. First time have I ever done something like this and I removed 5 broken studs no big problem. After the celebritory night haha, I decided to tackle the oil dipstick tube and after pulling tapping and beating I had no luck. I tried cutting it right above the mounting bracket, slipping the header over and using a piece of rubber put it back together. As I did this the fighting with the header and the tube ended in the best result ever, YUP! Broke off right at the cast. Patience is key I swear hah I got the good ol extractor from craftsman which was purchased specifically for this job so 👍. No luck all it did was spin and spin and spin but never bit hard enough to pull out. I look over into my tool box and I had a grade 8 3/8 bolt that I use to push off rusty rotors and it fit perfect inside the oil tube. Well the bottom of the oil tube tapers down so It bit in enough to make threads. I clamped vise grips and hit it from under the motor and whala!
