When the copied the Tundra!

Ford really did a stupid thing when they changed the rear seat in the Supercab from a fold-down to a flip-up. I have a '99 with the fold-down and it's great. The entire backseat area can be made into a ~flat surface. The flip-up came after Toyota installed the flip-up in the Tundra so monkey see, monkey do. Why mess with an excellent design other than to play follow-the-leader? I think the change was made in 2000.

yeah, my 00's seats flip up. I like that better than if they would flip down. It makes more room for stuff. Rather than just the seat level to the roof, you now have floor to roof. Good move IMO.

I believe they changed this in 99. My 98 Supercab they fold flat. Anything after 98(99-03) fold up.

Hope this helps!

My 99 seats fold down. I don't know when this started, but I like the fold down seats pretty well. Rich

when i had my '97, they didnt fold at all...they were just there and didnt go anywhere! the 4 part of the bench had a steel plate under it and the other side didnt move. i was so happy to see that they changed it when i got my '02. finallly i have room for my bowling bag without messing up the seat

IMHO the flip up takes up too much room. I will probably remove the seat for max space. There is just the two of now and I rather have the space than the seat.

Unhappy

I preferred the setup in my 99. Gave me a nice flat metal platform. The 02 lets me get down to the rug, but the jack & CD changer are down there. What good is that?

Thumbs up

Are you sure the 97 didn't fold down?? I thought 97/98 was the same, with the black pull strap up by the seatbelt clip?? I like the flip down with the metal platform. To me it's more trucklike that way, and the folded seat is not taking up room like the fold up. The only thing I could think of is cost effectiveness?? And it's lighter to help with the emissions requirements. To me the fold up seat makes no sense ,,,,98

The only beef I have with the fold down seat, is that the rubber bumpers pop out with a light tap.

why not? The seat bottoms are only like 4" wide so its not like you're really losing that much space, and you gain about a foot of height. Actually creates more space for the back area. I still think they should have done both so you could flip it either way

Smile

Well, I load that area of the truck all the time, and an uneven bottom, and 4" of compromised space makes a world of difference when trying to fit various odd shaped articles in there. I can fit my craftsman 24" toolbox back there even with the 60/40 center console flipped down.,,,98

I'm just glad I have the one I like If I had the newer style, I would buy the older style seat and install it.....
