Headrests
Headrests
Have any of you cloth capt. chair screw owners experienced any problems with the seam opening up under the headrest? The seam is between the metal posts. It appears to be some sort of plastic hook type slot thing that I can't seem to get rehooked. Let me know if you have seen this. Thanks
Yup had the same problem
I had the same problem with the headrest for the 60-40 seats on my 02 Screw.
I didn't even mess with them until I had to take my truck into the uphoulstery shop to have a small cut repaired on the back seat. The guy at the shop messed with the head rest for a few minutes and got the plastic strips to match up and snap. They haven't come open since.
You may have to take the headrest off and just play with it for a while but they should snap closed.

Just this morning I put my back head rest back on and one of them was undone.
it took me a couple of minutes but what you have to do is a sort of tuck and fold over move on the edge that has the arrow edge to it, to get it to catch.
Once you do it once it will seem easy.
good luck.

Can you explain the procedure a little more that you used . The front headrests on my 2002 SuperCrew are unhooked at the bottom also and I'll be damned if I can figure out how the edges hook together. Thanks.

Let me try to explain this
It would be easier to show you than is to tell you.
Let me try.
What you do is remove the head rest from the seat.
hold it in front of you with the metal points sticking up and the front of the head rest ( the slightly curved side) facing towards you.
pull the shorter back plastic piece from the back towrds you. It should stretch a little. while pulling the back piece towards you take the longer front edge and stretch it over the back piece.
this is wher the tircky part comes in. you have to sort of do three things at once. Keep the back piece pulled forward and the front piece pulled over the back piece and you sort of fold the front piece down and towards you tucking it in to the shorter back piece. You sort of have to do the whole thing at once. If you try to tuck say only the right side and work your way to the left (like a zip lock bag) it won't work. You should hear a snap when it catches.
These thing are a real pain in the a$$ until you've done it once or twice. but once you've done it once it doesn't seem so bad. I am undecided on wheter or not it's a good thing that these can come off so easy to clean or if they could be made more permannet so that we wouldn't have to hassle with them.
good luck

Thanks for the reply. I just got through fastening them. I pulled out one of my rear headrests and looked at it first and got an idea of how the fold looks. I had to press down a lot harder on the headrest than I thought I would have to. I wonder if they do this by hand or a machine at the factory? If it is by hand the guy that does it must have hands like the Hulk. (grin) Anyway it is done and I hope they don't come unfastened.

I agree on the procedure on how to stuff the edge of the headrest back into place, but mine was continually coming loose again. I finally got it back together one last time and took a needle and thread to it. A little difficult, but I put about 10 stiches on each and its held together ever since.
