Question gas pedal "side-to side" play

Sorry guys and gals.....I know this has probably been asked before, but the search function is disabled. Is there supposed to be a shimmy or side-to-side play in the gas pedal? This is in a 2002 F150, 4x4 Lariat with the adjustable pedals. I can see where the play comes from, and the brake pedal doesn't do it at all. The side-to-side play in the gas pedal is about half to three-quarters of an inch (eyeball estimate). Service guy at the dealer (not the one I usually deal with) says "they all do that" but, needless to say, I've heard that before.

Thanks
ernie

Our '02 Expedition has the same play. I think it's just a flaw in the design of the adjustable pedals. I agree with you though, it should not happen.

1/2 to 3/4" isn't bad. Mine started about that and is now closer to 1. The brake pedal had about 1" and has also gotten worse. Time to whine at them.

Don't take "they all do that". If you're not happy with the play, make the dealer replace them. Use the "safety" word often.

I had a 99 4x4 supercab and now my 99 Lightning, they both did the same thing. The gas pedals were a little sloppy, about the same amount of movement you described. Every single F150/Expedition I have driven has had it.

Thanks guys. Sounds like part of the "design", but I'll have them check it out again if it ever gets worse.

This doesn't sound healthy to me. I would look at it and see if there was a loose bolt or something. Mine has no 'play' at all.
