How do I get this dash Apart!!!!!!!
I was trying to take apart my dash so that I could paint parts around the gauges but then I ran into a problem. Ho in the world to get the piece of trim off that goes around the gauges the same piece that holds the headlight switch. I took out every damn bolt I could find, took off the bottom piece under the steering column and the piece around it that pops off. but that one piece feels like there is something holding it right where the headlamp switch is but I'll be damned if I can find it. HELP!!!!
Yes, and to take out the switch, use a flat bladed screw driver at about 2 o'clock and 9 o'clock to depress the things that hold it in. I know this will take awhile, but 7 hours is worth it so you don't rip up the dash.
Thanks guys I knew I had to missing something. I just kept pulling then looking then pulling then looking and figured if I kept pulling i was gonna break something. gonna try agin this afternoon.
Here's a quick little headlight switch removal how-to.
Turn on the headlights, and pull out on the ****. It should pop out about an eighth of an inch or so. On the bottom part of the **** (180 degrees from the pointer), there is a tiny slot. Stick an equally tiny screwdriver into the slot and pry the **** off. Turn the **** 180 degrees, and push it back on. Turn the headlights to the off position, and the switch should pop out. It takes a little wiggling, but it will come out. PLEASE do not pry the headlight switch out, or you'll be painting or replacing something you weren't planning to

Dude thanks so much that was so easy. it worked the first time. It took me all of about 5 sec and bam switch is out. I stuck the end of a paper clip in the hole and the know poped right off put back on backwards and wigled it a little and the whole dame thing poped right out. Thanks a million

The funny thing is that there are more than enough clips to hold that dash piece on. I left out that screw behind the switch just in case I have to get the piece back off again it will save a little bit of hassle.
The only drawback I can think of doing that would be a slight dash rattle. If it's not rattling, then I wouldn't be too concerned about leaving it off. I never thought of that, even with all the times I've had it apart.

I think they are okay, now. My set of indiglo's must have been the first ones ever made, LOL!
APC did not use adhesive on them originally, and I constantly had to tear the dash down to fix them. I think they all use adhesive now, though. ,,,,,98

Hey 98,
Well dude your suspicions were right. I started to get a little bit of a dash squeak right where I left that screw out and it was driving me nuts so I had to pop the head light switch back out and put the screw back in but thanks to your advice it was a simple procedure.
