Question shift ****

I'm new with my truck and I don't have a clue about anything yet. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the shift **** on a 2000 f-150 x-cab is removable. It doen't seem to be but I don't know..

Pimp,

I'm assuming that you're referring to a standard, right? If so then yes, you can remove it. But I do not recommend doing so. The dealer removed mine (who knows why?!) while doing an oil change and it was never the same. The **** would pop and come flying off the stick as I was shifting into 4th and roll around under the seat. I almost got into a wreck several times because of that. (I have tendency to "yank" it into 4th )

Anyhow, I notified the service manager but finally gave up on dealing with the BS and paid the $14 for a new one.

If you're still interested in removing the **** after all this then just turn it clockwise and counterclockwise several times. This will "grind" the plastic notches enough to allow you to pull it straight (up) out. But like I said, it may not stay on after doing this.

Hope this helps.

or you could just pull real hard on it and keep the splines intact, and at the same time putting a dent in your roof...
