Leather Problems....please Assist!
I recently had my brakes done at SEARS....what a mistake!
The work was good, brakes are fine, but after paying and boarding my truck, I noticed that the a-hole mechanic had gotten oil and grease all over my leather seats, carpet, and steering wheel. After rantin and ravin to the manager, three guys quickly did a nice detail job on the interior and removed all of the oil and grease...I was truly satisfied...however, about a week later I noticed that the "skin" of the leather on my steering wheel at the 12:00 position started bubbling up and peeled off. I have a 99 F-150 Lariat 4X4 and the interior is immaculant...except for that d*mn spot on the steering wheel...what can I do?

That stinks, I'm sorry to hear that. It could have been caused by brake fluid which is very caustic. You should scrub it down several times with saddle soap, rinsing thoroughly several times; this should stop more degeneration. If the leather finish is ruined, it doesn't get better. You could try taking the truck to a boot/shoe expert (I know this sounds funny, but it's worth a try) and let them look at it. I would also take the bills to the jack that caused it if you want to hassle with that. These are just a few suggestions, Good Luck !!
Thanks Max. I called the Sears place and spoke to a manager. He was a bit apprehensive at first, but later said it would be taken care of, even if he had to order a new steering wheel for it. Thanks also for the insight as far as the brake fluid goes, I didnt even suspect that, it makes perfect sense though, they were doin a brake job on the truck. Anyway, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer me, sincerely.
NEW STEERING WHEEL
After some more ranting and raving, the manager agreed to replace the leather wheel, at first he wanted me to take it to an upholstery place and let them patch it up, but later agreed to replace. Funny thing is, the steering wheel is only $325.00, I was expecting some outrageous price. Anyway just wanted to let you know.
now the manager ahd to have a meating with his employees and get on there butts about not getting stuff all dirty. you got it all fixed and maybe the guy behind you wont have a problem with it. ranting and raving go along way
