At just under 36,000 miles, the dealer replaced my bottom seat pad (60/40 bench) because it got real soft. Now, at 37,000, the seat is no better. Apparently the pad wasn't the problem. I think it may be the spring assembly - it cost over $300.00. I am sitting a couple of inches lower on the drivers side than if I would sit on the passenger side. Anyone else have/had this problem? Any suggetions?

You could bite the bullet and replace the seats with aftermarket. That way you can select bench versus bucket, leather or cloth, and firmness.

I can't see Ford replacing the seat under warranty.

What year truck do you have? I have a 99 with the Captain chairs, and drive an 01 with the bench at work. I never really noticed how soft the seat was in my 99 until I started driving the 01! I'm curious to hear what you find out, because I definately sit much lower in the cab of my truck than I do in the work truck.

 

My truck is a 1998. I really don't seem to be able to find out much about the seat. The dealer doesn't seem to care too much when I ask questions. The only thing I can think that is that the springs are weak - and to get a new spring assembly is over $300.00 from Ford. I have been looking at various websites that sell aftermarket seats. I don't know how good they are though.

 

It might be worth a try to search old threads to gain input on the various aftermarket seats out there.

 

This is a nice one, it's also the seat I'm getting next year. Steel Horse has been around for YEARS. This is the C-5 model. I realize with the $1000 price tag there not much of a solution cash-wise, but I'm sure they would have a great warranty for the money spent.

 

Falcom, ask for an after warranty adjustment on the
seat. Ford will pay 80% of the repair and usually
the dealer pays 10% and the owner pays 10%, but since they didn't fix the problem maybe they will take
care of the entire 20%.

 

I've already called Ford. They said they would look into it and they called me back a week later and said there is nothing that can be done - that the dealer said they did all they could. I don't see much hope in getting them to do anything since there is nothing broken, and the "soft" seat is probably more normal than not - I have seen a few other trucks with the same problem.

I'll look into the after market seats next spring. Next time I go and buy a new truck it I will be a little more selective in the type of seats in it. I think the bench seats are prone to this problem. Then again, maybe I go on a diet lighten the load on the seats

 

I replaced my seat foam well after my warrenty was up. I found that it was a bit better, but not like it was when new. So, I sliced the rear part of the old foam, before it goes to the side support area, and stuffed that in below the new foam, tapering the front edge so as not to be able to tell that i had done this.

It's better than it was, and when i don't have truck pmts anymore, i might look into aftermarket, as i have always wanted leather in my truck.
