passenger compartment air filter

Anyone know how to change the passenger compartment air filter? Three dealers and a full service garage couldn't help. Ford sold me the part, now I need to know how to access the housing behind the glove box. Thanx.

First off, the cabin air filter is not installed as standard equipment from the factory. It is a dealer installed option.

If a cabin air filter has been installed on your truck the access cover is in the bottom of the air box below the glove compartment. I found using a mirror to check things out easier than trying to get my big head under the dash.

There will probably be a plastic cover that is a part of the dash and is held in place by2 or 3 screws. Removing that cover makes access easier.

If a cabin air filter has been installed there will be a rectangular plastic cover about 2 1/2" X 11" held in place by 6 screws, 3 on each side. Remove that cover and the filter can be removed by pulling it straight down. Use caution when installing the new filter. It is a real tight fit between the air box and the floor. Removing any floor mats helps.

If a cabin air filter has not been installed then you will see just the bottom of the air box with a recessed section about 1" X 10" molded in. That is where the cabin air filter kit would go.

I had not checked the links in a while until now..they still work though.

as 01sport said, this feature is not standard in the F-150.

If you (or anyone) need additional help..just E-mail me at kps92@wildmail.com and I would be happy to help. It is actually very easy to install this kit.

If you haven't had the kit installed, ask the dealer about installing it. I did. You know that bitter beer face.........

Appearently although the kit isn't expensive, it's a royal PITA to install. But once it's in, I think it would be great!

By the way. Notice what post number this is for me. The next is a biggy......I wonder if I'll get a toaster?

I don't think installing it was all that bad. It took me a couple of hours. The biggest problem is finding tools that will fit under the dash.

I didn't get the bitter beer face at my dealer. I got the _DOH, what's a cabin air filter_ face. My dealer claims to have never installed one of these and I live in Kansas, the ragweed pollen capital of the world.

I am waiting for the kit to arrive. Not surprised by dealer reaction, it's typical. Incidentally, anyone hear of the heater core failing at around 100k mi?
I got this truck for one reason only...looks...everything else about it reminds me of a refined tractor. The product is clunky, unpolished and sometimes worrisome in it's to day to day operation, particularly the way the transmission shifts. Filled out the Ford survey and attached a long list of specific areas to improve. Got a nice form letter, which was about the same quality as the truck...it looked good, but lacked meaningful content.
Next time I'll probably get a Toyota.
Thanks for the feedback
