Post Center Console Mod

So I saw this idea awhile back but could never find the right box that would fit. The idea is to organize the black hole center console we have and I have to say its much better.
I found in Target a small leather organizer that will fit inside my console for $10. Then I got some aluminum railing for $6 at Lowes.

To do this I cut the railing at 11" each and then drilled two 9/64 holes on the end of each railing. I made such an odd size hole because I just used some small screws around the garage instead of buying more. Some small 1/8" holes would work just as well.

Now comes the hard part. The console was too small to get my drill in there so I had to hand screw the pilot holes for the railings. And even worse news, the first time I did it I put the railings too low, where the console got wider and was actually too wide for the box so I had to move it up but after moving it up I had it just right.

Pros: Makes things much more organized, total: ~$16
Cons: Can't use change organizer anymore but I never used it much anyways and I have a new place for change.

I've been looking for something to do with my center console for a while. I just might steal your idea. If you painted the railings it would probably improve the look a lot (not that it looks all that bad now). Do you have more info on the valet tray such as dimentions.

I plain on spray painting them I was just tied after hand screwing them for so long 4 times. If you steal it and your more than welcome to you'll understand haha. And I'll have to find the box for it but it was just under 10" long x 7" x 2" roughly. I had gone to craft places before looking for a simple small box and surprisingly I hadn't found any until now.

The railing was 36" and 1/2" tall and wide that I just cut off 11" each. And then I installed the railings about 5 5/8" off the bottom of the black hole so the box sat above where the hole curves down and gets bigger otherwise the railings would've been too far apart for the box to sit on them.

Haha well ain't that something mletchworth? Yall buy some now before they're gone if you plan to do this. The black leather looks good with the inside of the console being black too.

Outstanding!

Hey, great idea! Bought the same organizer from Target after reading your post. It fits perfectly in my 2013 F150 XLT console. Have some extra aluminum channel in the garage and will do the same thing this weekend. Appreciate the info.

That's why I love this mod, because the console shouldn't have changed much in size for the different year trucks. Let me know how it goes beagleman!

Nuts! When I went to do this yesterday, I saw that my aluminum channel was too small for this effort. Taking a couple days off this week and will snag something larger. Can't wait to get this done! Will post a couple photos, too.

Hey beagle have you done the mod yet? I spray painted the rails and screws black this weekend and now it looks like the railing belong there!

mount the rails upside down from how you have them now to hide the screws underneath the lip of the railing

That's not a bad idea Patman I didn't think of that. I don't think I personally will do it just because the box I have is about 1 1/4" shorter than the rails so it would slide back and forth but the way I have it now the screws compensate the box's size so it fits snug in between the screws.
