instrument cluster replacement

i just recently picked up a 96 F150, an the digital readout for the milage is busted. a buddy of mine said that if i swap the cluster out, then info for the milage is stored there. so it would read the replacement trucks milage. is that true?

Yes. If you have PATS system you will need to get your keys reprogrammed to the new PATS system in the new cluster as well.

You don't have to worry for a 96 to my knowledge. The digital odometer reading is stored elsewhere. PATS is a newer, like 99 and newer thing. You should be good to go!
