Unhappy sticky leather steering wheel

I own a '98 F150 Lariat and it comes with the leather wrapped steering wheel. I clean it regularly, whenever I wash my truck. Recently it has become real sticky, like some kind of adhesive is on it. Kinda strange. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with theirs. If so, is there a solution to this sticky mess. Thanks in advance ya'll

ditto here...mine was really bad when it was brand new...it sucks! I don't know what kind of leather they used, but it's really tacky! I clean mine too and it still remains pretty tacky...and it collects a TON of dirt because of that. I recently used some 3M Refresh lotion on it and that seemed to cut down on the stickiness.

Mine gets tacky where my hand rests, I guess from sweating on hot days. I use armor-all multi-purpose cleaner on mine, works really well.

Yeah, I get a dirt build up on mine as well. I will try the 3M and the amor all. Thanks for the suggestions.

From my experience (mostly with saddles, tack, boots, etc.) leather, even the cheap stuff, isn't naturally sticky when it's finished, it's what you do - or don't do - to it that makes it sticky.

I wouldn't use anything on leather except water with a very diluted mild soap in between conditioning (I use Murphys' Oil - not really a soap, but works well in keeping oils in and dirt out.) For a complete job, use a quality leather cleaner and then a quality leather conditioner.

I keep a package of Handi Wips i console and just when ever it gets sticky give it a quick wipe. Works great and is a great way to clean your truck quickly well waiting someone or at the car wash.

Thumbs up

I give the thumbs up to the Armorall disinfectant wipes for getting rid of the sticky feel that sometimes plaques the leather steering wheel in my F150.

I used them as recently as this morning. A couple of wipes, allow time to dry and voila!, no more stickiness.

I wonder if it's even leather. It feels aweful and get dirty as anything quickly. I don't get dirty at work (work at a PC, on the phone and in conference rooms 99.9% of the time) and mine get's dirty as anything. I had a Jeep GC and the wheel was great! Felt solid, stayed clean and never looked like it could even think about wearing.

I'm inquiring about Wheelskins (www.wheelskins.com) and wil probably install one if I can be convinced the install can look close to OEM/professional.

They send swatches of colors and they use real leather
