on 2000 F150 where to place brake controller?

Where is the best place to put my Prodigy P3 brake controller in a 2000 F150 4X4. There is a real nice place to the right of the steering column, above the gas pedal, but if I put it there it will be in the way when my wife drives the vehicle.
I was looking at the area between the two cigarette lighter and the pull out cup holder, but I am reluctant to drill without know what is behind there.
Anyone know what is behind that area?

I wanted to be able to see mine easily and not bash my knees on it every time I jumped into the drivers seat so I mounted mine more towards the middle of the bottom dash in front of my transfer case shifter. I can see it and it is out of my way.

i wanted mine to be where i could see it, adjust it when needed and easy to get to, and for whatever reason i needed the use the slide i can. if you dont want it to be visible why dont you just keep it in the glove box or tool box until you need it, then plug'r in?..

edit-there is nothing behind the spot you are talking about, unless you use a 10'' bolt
