The third brake light leaked in my '04. Some guys get a new seal or use silicone to seal it up. I just took mine off and noticed the seal had shifted, likely from heating up in the sun. I just moved it back to where it should be and never had another problem with it.

Take the light housing off, clean the mating surfaces, apply some clear silicone to the seal, and re-mount. No more leaks.

I bought an '08 Screw Lariat 4x4 with 9000 miles on it, in October. We recently had a huge rain storm (6+ inches in one day) and I opened up my truck to find the back seats and floor covered with rain. It was coming from the third brake light. I took it to the dealer and they told me all '04-'08 models have this problem. Ford apparently did a redesign (not sure if that's true) and they replaced mine. Since then, I haven't had any problems.
