Power Window Switch

First of all, how do I trouble shoot windows that work intermitently? The passenger side goes in and out. The driver side only goes up and will not come back down.

Also, anyone know where to find the switch assembly for a 1999 F-150 XLT two door extended cab? I've looked all over the web and local junk yards with no luck. The dealer wants $129 for just the switch!

Thanks,
Brent

Switch

I had to replace mine as well. I could not find an aftermarket switch and had to pay the dealership price.

Mine had the same symptoms that you guys are having. I have a 05 scab tho. before you pay the dealer try this. I took the switch assembly apart completely and used 600 sand paper and hit all the contacts. Cleared up all the problems. You should be able to find a post on switch removal for the 97-03. Like i said i did this on my 05 hope this helps you guys.

golden-lariat is right. as long a nothign is broken on the inside of the switch assembly all you need to do is clean it and regrease is and put it back in. on the removal im not sure.

to clean remove panel and proceed to take the switch apart. after its totaly clean use some steal wol to scuff the contact. next spray it with electrical cleaner/brake cleaner and alow to dry. then for best results apply a small ammount of dielectrical grease(can be found pretty much anywhere about 5 bucks). then proceed to reassemble.

this also works on the [ppower mirrors and the door open sensors if you can get them appart. be sure to keep an eye on all the pecies that you take apart.
