Help! Spoiled Milk

So, my wife's been drivin' my 2005 KR lately. I got it in the other day and about threw up. Apparently, she loaded a milk jub in the back floor board. Apparently, said milk jug was broken on the bottom and leaked out on to the carpet. Lastly, it was apparently not addressed, allowed to spoil, and now I fear my interior air quality is ruined forever. Its absolutely disgusting until you get the truck started and air flowin'.

I had the carpet professionally cleaned to no avail.

Any advice, help, instructions, tips, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

A while back, my buddy's GMC Envoy XL had 1 gallon of milk spill into a carpeted floor compartment... well, needless to say, 1 day later of hot weather, the inside of that thing was retched. He gave it to me to fix. When I drove it home, even with the windows down, I was on the near side of vomiting badly because I was gagging every time I smelled it -- good thing I didn't eat anything that morning.

So how did I clean it?

Well, I started out by using a Bissel LittleGreen Machine, and I did the whole interior, but mainly focused on the spot where the milk was spilled. I then got about 5 cans of BlueMagic Stain and Spot Carpet Cleaner, some baking soda, and a light touch of pine cleaner, and I sprayed all 5 cans down in that one spot. I then let it sit for about 3 hours. I came back out with my LittleGreen and cleaned it again. At this point, it looked like things were going good, plus it was sanitary again.

Of course I didn't trust myself... so I went out to Taylor Rental and luckily they had a commercial air ionizer. So I got that for $30 bucks and I put it in the back, closed all doors and windows, and plugged it in.

Lets put it this way... his SUV had no odors after that... when he got it back... he was like, thanking me up and down...

hmm.. I had a similar situation last summer.. I went catfishing in July and accidently left a bag of fillets sitting in my truck.. needless to say, I found out pretty quick.. I guess I didn't have the bag sealed and some of the juices spilled onto the carpet..

aside from cleaning it, febreeze is your friend! the smell should subside within a week.. 2 weeks at most..

My son left an empty Yoohoo box in the back of the truck, I didn't see it, and it spoiled. Just that little box smelled like death, even a few days after I threw it away. The smell took a while to fade from the fabrics of the interior.

I can't imagine actually having spilled milk sit and spoil in the carpet! Sorry, man.

I soaked mine in Febreeze for about a week. No more smell. This is probably the easiest way. But roll with the windows down for a while

Look up taxidermy supply online. They make odor killing drops that are safe on anything. A couple drops is very potent, considering they use them for deodorizing skunk and other musky animals when preparing the skins. I have a bottle that I cannot find, nor remember the name of it.

Nevermind, found it: http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/product/103271/nilodor
Also, search "odor" on this site, and you'll find other products.
Good luck.

You truck owners don't have Husky or some kinda liners? I cannot imagine having just carpet in my truck without some kind of protection.

All great stuff y'all. Thanks for the thoughts and keep 'em coming. I'm going to try a combination of about six of these suggestions thus far. It smells nastier than homemade sin.

The little green machine is awesome!! Like the other guy said try to let some good quality cleaner soak for a bit or try a scrub brush and really scrub it good then use the green machine or rent a carpet cleaner and go over it several times untill you get all the cleaner out. You could spray some ozium on the area and it should kill any odor.
