2002 SCab Pop Out Cupholder (on dash) Not Working

The pop out cup holder on my dash has suddenly stopped working. The latch part works properly, but there is no "Spring" in the mechanism anymore so it will not spring outward after I push it in. I havn't taken it apart to mess with it in a LONG time and it just quit working for no reason.

Anyone have any advice or info on how to fix it?

Thanks!!!!!!

There is a shiney metal spring that glues to the back of the cupholder. I just had to fix mine and used super glue, something that will hold it damn good. Yours may have fallen down so popping the ashtray/cupholder is a must anyways. To do this, reach under and pull these tabs down so it can be pulled back and out. A flashlight will reveal them and you'll see what has to be pulled on as it catches the dash edges. You'll see 2 nipples on the plastic part just behind the cup holes and if you find that piece, it too has 2 holes to line up. Use a strong glue so this never happens again. The "spring" is actually a band in the shape of lips, missing the top part a bit. Hard to explain, kind of oval shaped.

i used two small screws to fix mine and make sure that it never happens again. I didn't have a super strong glue around that I trusted enough to last in the sweltering summer heat so I predrilled two small holes and put two screws in and its been working great ever since.
