How to remove swiveling armrest

I want to install seat covers on the highback buckets in my '99 F150 Lariat. My plan is to remove the swiveling armrests on the inner side of the buckets, install the covers, and then reinstall the armrests. This will minimize the holes through the cover to just the size for the attaching bolts. The bolt that holds the armrest on is a large "star" head fastener that I couldn't budge with a big flat-blade screwdriver. Does anyone know if I need a special tool for this?

It is a torx fastener, but it's a big one (maybe 1cm diameter). It also has two thin tabs or "wings" that project out from under the fastener head. Could be some type of lock washer? I'll try to get a photo.
