Bench to captains...

I have a 97 SuperCab, with a full bench seat, and want to put in Captains seats in there. What seats are the easiest to find that will fit? And Expedition, or another F150's seats? And what year do I need to look for? All help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone! And if anyone out there has done this conversion, please tell me how it went!!

JBCP,
Yup, you can go to a 40/60 or captain's seats from your bench setup. Seats from any F150's from '97 to '03 (plus the '04 Heritage), or Expeditions/Navigators from '97 to '02 (I think that's when they changed body styles). Some of the captain's chairs have integrated armrests on the inboard side and some don't. If they don't, that means that the center console served as the armrest. But the mounting is all the same. My '98 Lariat SuperCab came with the 40/60 split front seat, and I put captain's chairs from a '99 Lariat in it, along with the center console from the same truck. If you're starting with a bench, you're gonna be short several bolts (for captain's chairs you need 4 per seat plus 4 for the console to do it right). Now I didn't do this, but wherever your truck didn't come with a bolt from the factory, there is supposed to be a bolt hole under the carpet that just has to be tapped. It wasn't such a bad deal with my truck and I didn't really have to do it, but I imagine you will with yours. Your bench probably only has a bolt at each corner, plus 2 for the seat belt anchors in the center, for a total of 6. But all in all it is a pretty easy mod and it can totally change the feel and look of your interior. You'll think you've got a new truck. Personally, now I want to find a set of King Ranch captain's chairs (the brown saddle-leather looking ones) for my truck, but they don't seem to be giving them away if you can even find them. You can usually find several sets of OEM seats on Ebay, but the shipping can get expensive if you're not within driving distance. Good luck with your project, and let us know what you decide to go with.

P.S. If your truck didn't come with a power seat option (which it wouldn't have with a bench), make sure to check if the driver's seat you buy is powered or not. If it is, you may have to pick up some power from somewhere in the truck in order to adjust it. The controls are on the seat itself, so that's not a problem. My truck came with a power driver's seat, so it was just plug and play. Again, good luck, and post pics if you go through with it.

WOW! I cant thank you enough for all that info. Thats exactly what I was looking for and actually a little more! I just got the truck about a month ago as a project truck, and ill probably really start working on it this fall/winter. I usually have the winters off from work, so ill have the time to do it. Again, thank you so much, and I will post pics for sure!
