In Dash cup holder problem

I was wondering if any of you had the same problem I encountered this weekend with your in dash cup holder.

When I pushed in my cup holder on the dash, instead of opening, it pushed all of the way in. I was able to work it back out but now the spring does not work. When I push it in now, it just stays in and does not lock into place.

If any of you had this problem and can give me instruction on how to fix, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
John

if its a 97-03 there are 2 little tabs on top of it that you can use a couple of flat head screw drivers to push them down and it will pull right out

My truck had the broken cup holder when I purchased the truck used and luckily the spring was still behind the dash. After reading the above post, I pulled the assembly out and used this super bond glue to reattach the piece. It works great now! We'll see how long the glue holds up

My metal tab "spring" has broke a few times now, the first time I use super glue, last about 6-9 months, the I JBwelded it back on there, it lasted about a year, but broke recently. I will now try to bolt or screw it together, I know the back side of the cup holders has very little room to be bolting or screwing, but I will find a permanent solution to the annoying plague.

I repaired mine with two small screws. I pre drilled the holes and hand tightened them. No problems since......
