guage cluster

I want to change my guage cluster out for one with a tach. Will the odometer read the same as the old cluster or will it read the milage out of the donor vehicle. Also does the tach need to be rewired or is the wiring harness already set up to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

The reading on the odometer does not come from the guage cluster it comes directly from the computer. So replacing it with another guage would read the same mileage. Which makes sense because if it wouldnt then people trading in or selling cars would just swap clusters and lie about mileage.

Sorry i can only answer part of your question.

mileage

hey
when i bought my 2000 f150 it had 275000 miles on it. it was wrecked and i had to change the pats system over because it didnt have a key when i bought it. i changed the computer, the column, and the gem. the cluster still read 275000 and the truck wouldnt start. i found out that the cluster had to be swapped also, so i swapped it. now the truck has 101000 miles on it. so the mileage is in the cluster. as far as the wiring...... i was planning on doing this same swap. all you have to do is get a cluster with a tach on it, go to the dealer, install the cluster in the parking lot and have them flash the computer. prepair to throw down about 120.00 for them to flash the computer. if you do this swap let me know how it goes.
