leather steering wheel wear?

does anyone else out there with the leather wrapped steering wheel have excessive wear occurring on theirs...i bought my truck used and the damage is already done to the leather on the top portion of the steering wheel (the area most people hold when driving with one hand). I have the tan leather interior on my truck and the leather is worn so that a black color from underneath is shown quite badly...is this something that can be repaired by an upholstery shop or something of that nature? or could i order some sort of custom fit steering wheel cover like i see on the net and in magazines, that fit tight to the wheel, not a universal one but the type that are made vehicle specific?

An interior shop can rewrap it for you or there are places that specialize in steering wheels who can do it for you.

Mine was same way and got a "Wheelskins" steering wheel cover for about $40 on ebay, really nice wheel cover. Worth checking out.

are the wheelskins the ones that are custom fit for each vehicle? i have seen ads for that kind of cover but i have only seen them lately for the newer fords and i would definitely not mind getting one of those b/c i have a feeling that redoing the leather on the wheel is gonna cost me a pretty good chunk of cash...

I have the same problem. Went to walmart and bought a gray steering wheel cover for $10. It looks like the dye wears off the wheel or something.
